Ok think I might be taking my Scottish heritage a wee to far...

You could not have said it better Highlander....it makes you feel as though the armies are still there and are watching you....rather spooky.....and yes it does make the hairs on your neck stand up.....

But Scotland is the most beautiful place..I have always loved my little jaunts over the Border......hence I love Haggis......I like the mountains and the Lochs......and the sheer majesty of the country....but apologies still don't like whisky.......

Ha ha, at least you spelt it right this time!!

You just haven't tried the right one, that's all.

OK Highlander.... I will try one, what do you recommend?

On General note,

To all of those with Scottish Heritage, be very proud,

The Scots moved all over the world and have their own unique
qualities that make them Good strong members of society wherever they go.

Like all others there are many qualities to be celebrated, and alongside diverse and complimentary communites we all find our place.

Wear your Kilt with pride, and know you can stand very tall. In your genes you take the granite of Scotland wherever you go.

(and a man in a kilt is the most masculine and attractive vision) lol...

Enjoy, my welsh friends have been so impressed when the highlanders arrive for Rugby or in full dress costumes for weddings.

Burns Night is Special, have a great time.

lol...yes, that was the reason for my last post by way of an apology.

I am sure the kilt will look amazing and look forward to seeing a picture,

brilliant.

Since it's already been hijacked... This looks like a good place to get a little help. I am supposed to go in to my daughter's preschool classroom Friday and give a talk about our heritage. Of the dozen or so ethnicities in our background, I decided to go with the Scottish.

Any idea of what to talk about to a room full of 3 year olds?

I'm bringing shortbread for them to try, pictures of guys in kilts. I was even going to read a (very short, translated) Burns poem as I am all about be exposed to things above your level.

But other than mentioning that Scots wear kilts and eat good cookies, what else would a 3 year old be interested in about Scotland?

Would be good to talk about the climate, COLD!!!...lol.

This could lead on to the special animals built to resist the cold,

Highland Cattle with their long coast. The great Stags as mentioned and written about by Scot, the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis.

Shetland ponies bred small to retain their heat and also to navigate the mountainous terrain. Thick coats too.

A good burns poem is "to a Fieldmouse"

"Wee sleekit Cowrin timerous beastie, Ohh what a panic in thy breastie"

I have been carrying around a small tartan book of burns poems I found in my uncle's belongings.

It is good to read my father's favourite again, " Tam O'Shanter"

Food: there is Haggis, Tatties (Potatoes) and Mince (minced beef) and of course Porridge Oats.

Dundee Marmalade, and cake. very special. lol....

Historically there is loads to talk about, Like the Romans deciding that the Scots were too warlike, so they built a wall to keep them out. lol....

These are fun things that will get little ones asking questions.

The use of Woad ( the blue clay ) used as warpaint. Hmmmm a bit of face painting is fun.

the many many battles with the English. Bit heavy for that age.

Good luck to you, will be so much fun getting litle ones to join in.

Have a fantastic time.

Jena.

My maiden name is Rogers. But I believe (Peter Rogers) came from England, but you never know! We could be cousins! My ancestors settled in Georgia in the early 1700's. Interesting!

My best friend walked down the aisle to marry her wonderful husband who was wearing his kilt and complete dress attire. I so agree, there is something about a strong man in a kilt that rocks.
