Jarvis, the mix look is the big thing about them. No one wants to let them be bred into ant standard because the look is part of their heritage. They can come out with any comb type and any color. Thats the thing I really like about them . You can have a pure "breed" That does not have to conform to any set look. Its the same thing I like about the Ees. Only thing I require on my EEs is that they have a beard and ear tuffs and lay blue eggs. Thats why I stay with the term EE. I can rest in my mind knowing I have as pure Americannas as anyones but they don't all have to be one color.or pattern.I am excited to get to raise this breed. They will make a great "mixed" looking farm flock when I get back to the farm but will in fact be a very rare pure breed. They are about the size of brown leghorns and supposed to be very broody.

Those are some good looking birds Wayne. The reasons you listed are why I like to keep a mixed flock of layers, I like the assortment and it's cool to see where natural selection will go.

these are my silkies- all but the white one came from Betsy- and the girls have been broody ever since they started laying...silly girls

on heating the coops, i don't basically because if they are used to it and you lose power they will not be acclimated to it, which can cause problems- i do watch their combs close and put vaseline on them to try to keep them from getting frostbitten

and i know who is who... although i can tell the brahma girls apart- even though most people can't, but mixed flocks can really be fun- my layer flock is half EE's and they are easy to tell who is who

Hi Everyone!
Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Also was wondering who is planning on going to Blanchard tomorrow. Pretty sure I am going to go. Really need to take some birds to sell but am probably going to wait til Newcastle. I had an allergic reaction to saw dust this week and have been feeling pretty cruddy. Slowly starting to come out of it but it has really put me behind schedule.
Hope to see a lot of BYCers at the auction. You all have a great night!

We're going! We've got some extra roos we're taking down, hopefully to sell and not give away, but they don't need to be here. French Black Copper Marans, Welsummer, Golden Salmon Marans, and some pied keets.

look forward to seeing you and other BYCers there!

hi folks, haven't been on here in a while, letting all know all is well except for hens not laying right now. I've been helping my brother get thier house done before winter comes, a lot of work for 2 guys. we've got all the wiring and most of the drywall done so it won't be long before they move in to it.

Getting all my directions together to drive to Durant in the afternoon tomorrow. Here's to hoping I don't have to drive in the rain

It can rain after I get home.

Pretty silkies, Robin!
