***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good morning, Sooner! Thank you for the link to crockpot recipes.
Lynn1961, your recipe for Chicken Stew is very similar to the way I made the Chicken Taco Soup the other night, except I added canned tomatoes and crushed tortilla tortilla chips to the soup as it cooked. The tortilla chips thicken the soup and then I serve the soup on a bed of tortilla chips with shredded cheese and sour cream on top.

The one I have left seems to be fine. However, the ones before last seemed to go quickly so who knows. I don't think it's where I got them because she raises many many silkies and doesn't have this problem. There has to be something here that's the problem.

ok, so bump up her immune system, which seems to be what you are doing anyway, do you have a chick she could be friends with? oh another thought- fumes- you know with the parrots you had their sensitivity to cleaner fumes- even air freshner- any chance they were exposed to something like that?

Nope. The next oldest batch is 11 weeks old. If I put her in with them, they'll probably kill her. So it's her, a stuffie, and a mirror right now. I also won't get any more chicks until spring or later because I don't know what this crap is.

I have always used milk replacer for the bottle goats, but Les's wife Teva told me that she used whole milk from the grocery store. I haven't tried it myself, but plan to try it if we ever have another bottle baby, since the milk replacer gets expensive - fast.

According to Storeys guide they should only be eating about 4oz every 6 hours, but they seem to eat about 6 oz most of time. Storeys guide even recommends whole milk.

The plan is to sell two of the kids and raise one for freezer camp. I have time to milk and care for three does, so that will be the number I keep full time. There are many reputable breeders keeping nice bucks for their own farms, so I prefer to pay for stud services and not have to worry about the expense of keeping a buck year round.

Yea, I've got oxine.........how would I do it? I don't have a humidifier. Would I boil some water with oxine in it? And hold it down by him to breathe?

thats what i am thinking to do, carl or steph would be clearer on what to do - can you call them?

We have both cool mist and heated humidifiers, I like to use the Oxine in them in the house when the kids are feeling down, seems to help. I would imagine boiling oxine water would have a very similar effect.
