***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Here's my 7 Cochin babies that I talk about ALL the time, the ones I hatched from eggs the only time I ever incubated. They're 5 months old now. The boys pen is in the back, the girls in the front.I just love these guys.
The picture of the 3 boys was taken the other day. The dark boy is the coolest color, he's black on the outside and gray underneath. And can you believe how big my turkey boy got??? I did end up with 2 girls and 1 boy turkey, not sure if I told you all that. What a relief.

Nana, that baby is adorable :O
BarbiesZoo, I'm sorry about your girl. It's so hard to lose the favorites.
Okla, I'd *almost get a guinea pig if I could find one of the rust & black colored ones, that's really pretty. And I adore finches, I'd love to get some of them but the tiny things are so expensive.

As gross as it sounds, it does happen if the hen sticks too close to her eggs and doesn't come off the nest to eat, drink and poop. This usually happens in summer when there are lots of flies, but can pappen in the winter as well.
Take a clean box and fill it with clean nesting material and make a nest impression. With a pencil, mark the top of each egg. Gently brush off the eggs and place in the nest impression pencil mark up. Cover with a damp towel heated in your microwave for a couple of minutes. You might need to put several layers of papertowels over the eggs to keep a really hot towel from laying directly on the eggs.
Now clean your hen's bottom. After I bathe the butt, I dry her off, uncover the eggs and let her adjust in the nest.

Thanks Nana!! That would fit that hen- she is a devoted mama- and i actually am now moving her off the nest for a few minutes to get her to eat and drink- otherwise she will not move at all...

Thanks Ksane...even though a blurry picture you can tell it's a cutie.

Sorry about your little hen BarbiesZoo

Wayne, the frozen cow photo was sent to us last year by a friend. I have no idea where that herd was located, but I had been complaining about 5 foot snow drifts. That photo put me in my place!

ArtsyRobin..how is your hen now? Added: You posted while I was typing... glad to hear she is okay.

Armywife...glad to hear your little rooster has his voice back.

Wow seeing those winds in California and the resulting damage makes me wonder what kind of weather we can expect this winter....

i really need to get some oxine, how diluted do you make it? i was wondering on whether to clean one of the eggs as she pooped on it-

MJ, one of your cochins has decided to be a mama... not a good plan - bless her little heart- so will try to take the eggs and see if she has second thoughts- one broody at a time!

Mitzi, glad the cochins are doing good- they must be like silkies- living to be mamas!

I am so sorry you lost her! crop issues can be real tricky- was she an inside bird ? i have started offering grit to my inside birds just in case they need it, to digest food. Check with BetsyOK she will be at shawnee and she raises silkies... that who i got my most broody of broodies! Flo, with the second hatching- keets-
