She's a smart and pretty girl!
I really try to keep the hens from going broody this time of year, because the eggs chill so quickly when the hen gets off the nest to eat and drink.
You could give her some golfballs or those ceramic eggs and remove any real eggs when the other girls slip in there to help fill the nest.
Breakfast and lunch! Saturday is looking better and better. I will wear one of my POOPS T-shirts. Can I RSVP so I'm included in lunch plans? This will be my first time at the Shawnee show, so I don't know where anything is. I need a show buddy, like a camper buddy, so that I don't get lost
OK,
I am taking charge of 1 item. I am going to call Abulitas tomorrow and schedule the back room for 12:30 pm Saturday for lunch. You are all invited to join us and no RSVP required. Each person will be required to cover thier own lunch expenses. there should be plenty of room.
I will ask several to call me and remind me of the time on saturday as I will get side-tracked and be busy talking..

Poco, find me and I will happy to help... but I walk outside the building otherwise it takes me over an hour to get from end to the other.
Thanks! I'll find you. I'm sure I'll find a lot of BYC folks who can point me in the direction of something interesting I missed. I'm anxious and excited about being able to attend. So many chickens, so little time.
RetiredArmyWife , I've never been to a show or auction either, this is my 1st year owning chickens (except for wild ones that came over from the neighbors)-and here I sit with close to 50 birds. Sigh. I'm going to be wearing a bright red Angy Birds (haha) T-shirt and gray sweatpants. I've met....Robin & Dave, Carl (Jarvis), Michael D, Firefly, FaeryLady (I emailed her, you guys, she's fine-just busy) & BuckGuy20....I guess I've met more than I thought.
I love those Piggys!! That's totally cool lol
It spit snow here for just a few minutes a little while ago. I used to love the snow, but not now with birds. Too worried about them getting cold
Home Depot has 6 ml Visqueen 6'x100 for only $30! I'm going to put that up around the roofed pens against the side of the house since those are the 3 pens that aren't connected to an actual building for the birds to go in. They have dog houses but not a building. I plan on using those nails with the plastic caps on the ends of them to put the visqueen up. Ya'all want pictures when I'm done??
I've had 3 Cochin Bantam pullets & the 2nd Easter Egger start laying just in the past week. I never named the EE's so I call them both "Egger-Egger". I didn't think they'd start laying in December....?! I'm going to pickle the bantam eggs like Michael D was talking about-awesome idea. My tiny red bantam Cochin wants to sit all the time, too. She bunched up some straw and sat on that yesterday after I took her egg.
My 1sT EE lays cream colored eggs, but this 2nd EE that started laying today laid a green egg!! I love it! I'm seriously considering Ameraucanas (did I spell that right?) in the spring instead of game birds. The games just sound too bird-aggressive as a breed for what I want. And I'm in love with these colored eggs. To think I tried giving my EE's away-I should be egg-whipped! Here's my green egg. Pretty good sized for a small girl, too.

If you want to keep that bright green or even blue egg you should be able to locate an aracauna rooster to put over your americauna / EE hens. All teh young will lay a blue or Green egg. You can likely find one in Shawnee on saturday.
