Looked it up myself. It ssems an Araucana is what I want. Hens. The ones with ear tufts and no tail.
Do you suppose there'll be any of those at Shawnee?

They will be there, in small numbers though. there is a reputable breeder in AR. and she has Blue's. She sells birds and eggs sometimes. I know someone who will hatch them for you if needed and keep them till we know wich are males if need be.

roflmao! You're killing me! I'm so scared to get anything but adults anymore. There's just too many things that can go wrong with babies. But if she ever sells adults, then that's definitely the way I want to go.
And I'm not going to be breeding any so I don't have to worry about that part of it. I seem to collect up enough chickens without the need to purposely breed anyway.

You must make a chicken too.

USPS delivered my antique piggy today. He's smaller than the piggies I made, but he is more realistic. He will be an excellent model for me to work from. I'll create a head and hooves and then set them in plaster to make a mold. I also received an out-of-production plastic headed chicken doll from an old collector in MD. I'm soooo excited to have this little guy. He has plastic wing tips, feet, and a molded plastic head. I'm going to use the wing tips and feet as models, and the head will guide me, but I've got so many ideas about how to make better heads. I've got live models all around me, so I'm going to use some of my favorite birds as models for next year's chicken doll. I'm getting a brick of clay (25lbs.) for Christmas, so I'll be able to make my prototypes. DH helped me open the boxes, and he thinks both animal dolls are realistic, which makes them creepy to him because they are wearing clothes. Both are dressed as children. I think they are adorable. He'll just have to get used to them.

I'm going to make at least two dolls for the NE OK Chicken Stock: one for the raffle and one for the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale. The event takes place in Muskogee on June 16th, and everyone is welcome to make suggestions and help out. The link for the planning thread is in my signature line.

Yep,
I will simply say make good friends.. and show vaible interest in the birds.
A bird is worth what a person is willing pay regardless of anything else. There are birds that go well above any $ value in my opinion, and there is a stopping point as well. It is all based on what a person wants and what they willing to do to get it.
Sometimes developing a relationship and being patient is well worth the wait and gifts sometimes ocour as well.

Amen to that! I toured a farm today that I have religiously been buying their birds through the auctions. These folks have really nice birds and even their culls are better than some peoples stock. I toured their facility today (in my Tyvek suit) and got the wonderful gift of three birds and was made a special offer on some solid white Americaunas. They are discontinuing that breed and asked if I would be willing to take them. Of course I said YES! They are beauties. I pick them up in two weeks. Yippe. But it helps when they become your friends...

Cindy Lou has beautiful really good spots! Would you like a Mille fleur rooster for her and her sister? I have too many roos and will gladly encourage anyone that wants to raise Mille Fleurs.
