I have the same question, my birds are all healthy but I would like to see them FAT. Especially going into winter. Did anyone ever suggest anything?

birds will burn a lot of fat in the cold by shivering the acked of sivering burns fat and helps raze body heet you need to up the fat cont for weanter feed ration there are several thing you can do to do this
#1 at more corn to the feed ration
#2 top dress the feed with a GOOD oil that is HIGH in omaga3s " these oils are verry heart heathy and also help give the birds that sheen"
#3 at sunflower seeds to diet
#4 dog or cat food is high in good fat cat food has more salt so dog food works better
or a combination of them

HERE IS A FACK SHEET

birds need proteen for feather growth and egg prodoction ,and muscle mass
birds need FAT for for energee ,heathy feather coat ,heathy heart , and heet

NOT ALL FAT IS BAD even in our own diet we and are birds need good fat to have a heathy diet grains are HIGH in good fat OATS WEAT MILO CORN BARLY SOYBEANS EX EX are all HIGH in fat

I went outside and i was right...it was wet and cold

ducks seemed mad...they always seem to be complaining...I don't listen ti them anymore

run-around birds were daring each other to go out in the snow...only the dumb teenaged boys did it

I'm not changing the diet my birds get except for replacing my usual scratch (that had milo) with a mixture of my own from cracked corn, black oils sunflower and unhulled wheat (50 lbs of each).
The flock has free access to layer pellets from S&S Feed in Shawnee
I still provide them with wet oats 2-3 times a week.
My flock goes out to freerange on days it is not raining.
I provide greens on the days they don't go out as well as kitchen scraps, shredded carrots, stale bread.
Water gets vitamin drops in the tray every other day
A lethargic hen is unhealthy. I want my birds eager and active.
Adding fat to the diet in winter does not mean you have to have fat birds.

The girls have found the garden in their freeranging which means next summer, I'll be protecting the garden beds with netting during the planting season to keep them out of the beds.

Hey MJ!
Here is an up to date photo of your little Cochin Bantam that NNN adopted for brooding. She actually tried to flog me when I reached in to get the chick for the photo. She lives up to her name Nasty Nesty Nellie. You can see the little feathers are growing nicely.
