***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks, everyone for the feed suggestions. I appreciate all the feedback. I will add to their diet keeping in mind the fat content. My chickens are healthy - laying eggs regularly, have nice looking feathers, bright eyes and active, and were wormed in October. No mites, lice or anything like that. I check them often for that. Maybe I'm just overly concerned. They're not skinny, just not as plump as I think/thought they should be.

Now, I'm still working on getting them to go into their coops at night. Lights are on in both, but had to put them in there again tonight. I'm running out of patience with that, and am tempted to just let them roost where they will. There isn't electricity to the coops and the batteries run out pretty quickly in those light fixtures I hung in there. Batteries are expensive. I really don't like the idea of running extension cords across the yard. Fire is a deterrent.

When in Quinton Monday, took a picture of Pampa's cabin where he lived until he died sometime in the 60s. No one has lived there since. It was once heated by an old pot bellied stove in the center of the little shotgun cabin. He got his water from a spring up on the hill behind. Pampa was my MIL's grandfather...hubby's gggrandfather.

My flock is 45 hens and I'm getting 24 - 28 eggs a day now...two are broody, one is raising chicks and 4 of those are roos.
Love Backyard Poultry magazine.

Good looking birds, NanaKat. That's a cool old cabin, and enjoy the stories of how things were back before we got spoiled with technology.

Here's a post someone sent to me on Facebook.

Hi baby Cochin. Are you being good?
I like NNN, she is a good mama. She should be nicer to you thought, after all doesn't she know where her nice room and board come from?
Thanks Again NanaKat.

Was going to help Jack sort and band Black coppers today but as soon as we got ready the drizzle started.
His brother came over and we all talked chickens and I got a lesson in trimming spurs and nails. Wish I didn't have to work, I would play with chickens everyday.
Fire in the fireplace - cozy.
