***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I wouldn't do high roosts, as he is a heavy bird, and could injure himself jumping down. He would probably do ok with a three foot high roost as he grew up with high roosts, but no higher. You also want a roost that's wide, a two by four laid flat works well.

That's exactly what I had to do with my Cochins & turkeys. I've got a bunch of 4x4 cedar posts, maybe instead of Nana's drawing I'll cut a 4x4 and set each end on cinder blocks. I guess he can see out the lattice holes and that'll have to do. That'd make it 19" tall, that'll be good.

Dang! I know my turkey's can jump to the top of the 6' picket without using their wings, they have to be in a covered pen. It's the landing that's hard on them.
I sorta' roost-cheated in the Brazilian's pen. I put the little OE Bantam in a 2' tall dog crate inside his pen since the other little OE's are still in quarantine & I can't put her with them yet. He hopped right up on it and raised his long neck up and was watching everything. So that worked good and it's a nice flat area for him.
