***OKIES in the BYC III ***

But hey, everyone can gripe and complain about me too, I don't take offense to much. I had a guy as me the other day how much I charged for birds, I told him some are not for sale at any price, some are not for sale to certian people. Bird price I base on the person more than the bird. I can make more birds but can't fix attitudes and personalities.

That Faverolles article Carl pointed to at has this info that I never even knew!

Issue 2 – Numbers of Roosters

Remember, the key to successful breeding is to keep as many roosters as possible because opposite to mammals and primates, the male bird has the double XX chromosomes and carries twice the genetic material to the female who only has one X paired with an inert Y. It is a common mistake to have one rooster and many hens. It is almost impossible to run an efficient and successful breeding program for poultry without lots of roosters – for every variety you need at least 2 or 3 roosters that you alternate over the hens, some you selectively put over different size and type hens to achieve improvements in the offspring.

All you had to do was ask.. That is what allows us all to control teh appearance of the pullet. The Female always inherits color from the father. Pattern is whole deeper story though.

Far too often, thats why it's so much fun to compete against those guys and beat them on occasion... In some varieties more than on occasion. I have refused to join one breed club and only show just to take away the points from teh "big boys". It is funny to read thier "Show Reports" and what they fail to disclose is they had best of variety when they were the only one showing, or best of breed with only 3 birds in teh breed present, it's stuff like that they don't like to have told. It's easy to win if you are the only one, but does not give you bragging rights.

I know exactly what you mean. I spent most of my life around dog people but they're the same as bird people-only the animal is different.
I'd pay admittance to see some of those guys beat by an outsider lol!

So if I'm understanding this right.......I have no other choice but to get more roosters, correct? Yep, I'm up against the wall here and you leave me no other option.
In case there's any misunderstanding in the future-Carl is the one making me get more Faverolles boys. It's out of my hands.

here is a prime example.
I love teh Birchen Color the contrast of the brilliant Silver (not white) on the Black.
Birchen and Brown red are identical in all aspects but one, color of hackle, saddle, and wing bow.
I have never found a Birchen I was satisfied with, so worked on Brown red to get them where I liked them, then aquired a decent but well colored Birchen Male.

mated him to a few of my Brown red hens.

And Got some Nice Birchen Pullets:

Is Lil-Sooner going to have room for 3 trios by late summer? I would liek to set her up with a Trio of Opal OE, Trio of Columbian OE, and a Trio of Black Rosecomb. As well as anything else I have she may be inetrested in.

Yes she will be ready. I will start on the new pens & they will travel along the west fence. They will be for trio's & quads. The one that will be shown will be in the building & then returned to the pens. I wish I could draw the pen how I see it in my head.

Lund Poultry,
they show very heavily in favoroles, and do quite well.. they also sell hatching eggs when they are past thier show breedings. $25 a dozen + $13 shipping. Check them out... I have this great big incubator (actually 2) that will hold 1800 eggs each. You see this way you are not "buying" roosters you just end up with some.

make me a sketch, and I can Draw it to scale for you... that will let you estimate materials and everything, then I can convert the plans to a photo that can be printed. I do this in Layers to show different parts with dimensions etc. It makes it easy for me to follow directions. I can't build anything without drwaing it first. Drives Steph nuts.
