Our little bull calf has been named Bubba, Bubba Burger is his whole name, my mother was over last weekend, when I told her his name she said are you realy going to eat him? Told her thats the plan, so she will know what her steaks and burgers and named when she cooks them. She must be getting more tender hearted with age, we used to raise calves to butcher when I was younger.
When I see DH petting him and scratching him, I ask if he is getting attached, his reply "nope, just tenderizing "

Buster have you checked the farm diversification grant out? The info is at Oklahoma dept of ag site. They will fund your processing center if you do the paper work, I think if you are needing more than $5000 you have to put up 50% of the money.

Huh. No, I didn't know about that. I'll have to check it out. I don't think I would need much more than $2,500 though, at least for my own operation. Just need to do this for a while, because you have to have some sort of history, and so far I haven't sold a single meat bird. Maybe once I take a few orders at the market I can qualify...

Thanks so much for the heads up! You are a wealth of useful information.

Nice day outside to clean out the asparagus beds and to plant more cabbge and broccoli plants.
Heard a crowing contest while I worked.
Two calves born so far today and will check again before dark. We like to make sure the babies have nursed the moms.
BBL
ETA: another calf...total of three for today.

Time to thin out the chicken population around here. I have 4 Russian Orloffs and a rooster of unknown breed for sale. I'm sure someone on here knows what he is. I'd like to get $50 bucks for the group. If they aren't laying already, they're very close. I've gotten some eggs that are from them or my other pullets that are the same age. If anyone is interested, let me know.

You've still got them?? My lucky day! I do want the 4 girls, I can come get them tomorrow for $50.
I'm sorry, I can't take the Speckled Sussex boy though.
I came so close to emailing you about the girls and thought for sure you'd sold them!

Kurt (my 14 year old) is building his own coop from scraps of pallets and scrap wire left over from our last coop building. He will be putting 2x4 wire over it all in the end. He is making a small coop for silkies at the moment, he also wants D'uccles but will build them a seperate coop. So far he hasn't cut any fingers off or anything, lol. (that would be Jack on the ladder supervising)

This design is good, it gives me an idea of what to do with all the pallets I've got saved up. It's always the roof I have trouble with.
