***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We got our two hens! One has been in the nest box for awhile though and I was wondering how long it takes them to lay an egg? Whenever we go near the box she gets really worked up, is she broody? They seem to love their new home

I have so many questions, thanks for being patient :)

Ok, and Thanks for calling me an Okie. No one has ever called me that before. We will have been here 8 years July 3rd. We were in San Diego 8 years before that. So it has bee 16 years since I was in Japan and met my Texan husband. This has been a long journey for this Michigander to find home.

How funny I was born and raised in Michigan and lived in Japan. Never been to San Diego though.

Set your live traps in the path to areas they go to eat or drink and use something to guide them into the trap like a couple 2"X12"'s or anything that limits where they can move without going through the trap.

So far the scolding is working she is staying away from the nest at least the one where the duck is setting, I have another nest in a 55 gal barrel but it's never been messed with not sure where the rest are laying or if eggs have been taken from them, The geese have laid 2 soft shelled eggs that I've found one on the ground near the feeders and the other actually in the water in the pond so I'm thinking she either hasn't decided on a nest yet or being soft shelled she just dropped them off out of her way LOL I am still watching Princess for any sign she is still eating eggs the hard part is I'm gone so much so it's easy to miss if she does,

I had no hopes for the BB silkie eggs because so many were clear. So exciting. Now if the white Silkie could just get out hasn't made a whole lot of progress. :( Starting to worry about it.

The chick devil eggs the eyes are black olives or raisins usually. They use baby carrots for the orange parts. The eggs were in a Easter issue of family fun magazine a few yrs ago.
