***OKIES in the BYC III ***

All 4 of my big Cochin girls are gentle and soooo dang sweet, is that how yours are? They come running up to me and squat like they're asking to be picked up. So then I have to hold them and tell them how wonderful they are. I think it's just their personality because they were raised alongside the hatchery Silkies and the Silkie girls act nothing like that. I'm seriously debating putting my dark blue male with them long enough to hatch out some babies. If *this* is what hand raised Cochin girls act like? That'd be what I want for ALL my chickens.

rofl!!!!! That's hilarious!!!
I'm sick to death of this rain. 5 more days of this????

Boy we went from the high 80s to the 66s today and 40s tonight. But it was a beautiful day. I was busy putting cages together for the auction tomorrow. Did good till I unloaded feed and pulled a muscle in my back. Now if I move jsut right it hurts like heck!
Excited to be going to the huge Amish sale tomorrow. There is always so much to see. I drove by there today on the way to get feed and the twenty acres was already filling up with all kinds of old tractors and horse drawn equipment ,tools ,lumber, etc. By daylight the birds and critters will start flowing in. I'll try and get lots of pics.

I love seeing your photos - looking forward to your Amish auction report and pictures!

woohoo! One hatching when I got up this morning, just a large pip at this point, but he's acting more like I would expect a hatching chick to act! Yeah!! Hope they all get out today so I can watch them hatch!
I notice my Ameraucana has a lot of yellow on him. Is that normal for a blue??? I have only seen solid color chicks. And I have 4 more pips!!! All Silkies.
Here's one of my Blue Cochin girls the day she hatched and then after she was grown. The 3 that ended up Splash colored were pretty much pure yellow with no gray.

We got our two hens! One has been in the nest box for awhile though and I was wondering how long it takes them to lay an egg? Whenever we go near the box she gets really worked up, is she broody? They seem to love their new home

I have so many questions, thanks for being patient :)
Some of them drop them while they're walking (literally lol) and others make a big production out of it and sit and squawk in the nest for 45 minutes making sure EVERYbody for 4 acres knows they're laying an egg. It does sound like you've got one wanting to sit on eggs. Depending on the chicken some get pretty bent out of shape when they're broody.
Uummm....oh yea....you don't officially have chickens until you show us PICTURES lol

My girl that lays round eggs laid on the a dime sized circle hole in the egg today. The yolk & everything is still inside the egg, it wasn't broke she defiantly failed to make a complete circle when she laid it. Wanted to post a pic but the camera on my phone keeps freezing up

So far today 1 seabright egg hatched -- still no action on the guinea eggs. 28 cuckoo marans as of right now about a 75% hatch on those. But still have several making progress.

Going to finish chores before I head out to the auction. see y'all soon

On the home front:

Since we finally closed on the house(19th March) the kids and I have been busy

I ordered 25 chicks from Murray Mc Murray couple weeks ago and with the chicks I was wanting they wont be able to ship the whole order until May 21... I was like dang chicks are going quick.

Sissy is still working the stables and I have realized it is time for her to learn the basics of driving..

Austin (on his own) has really taken to try and be the man of the house while dad is deployed and at times its fun to watch him try and talk big... and be serious... but it is nice to see him want to care for me his mom and be protective over his sissy and what needs to be done on the house...

Some of my fellow Friends recently signed up on BYC and I dont know their screen name yet but I hope they find the OKIES in the BYC as I think they would enjoy getting to know each and everyone of you and will be able to attend the POOPS... Their names are Britany and Charles... Great people.

Well I best skeedaddle You guys have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Great to hear from you Barnswallow - so glad to hear you're getting chicks soon. My best to Aleisha and Austin - they are growing up!! We miss you. Thanks for checking in.
