***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass those are stunning. It looks like the edges have been embroidered! I just had a huge deep gold iris bloom here. I hope these rains do not beat it up too bad so I can get a pic.
Some pics from today.

This iris just bloomed today, I wanted to get the pic before any storms beat it up

These next ones are my comfrey blooming, this is a bad thing it should have been harvested before it bloomed. So even though they are beautiful hopefully this won't happen again.

Sorry jcat, didn't mean to repeat what you said! You type faster than I do!lol.Maybe the shepard will be pregnant to another beautiful shepard and you will be able to bring me a puppy in june!lol

Well, let's see..... I started out with 5 California white and one Dominique hen and a Dom. roo. From there, it just kinda exploded. I can't even give you exact numbers right now, but I have bantam cochins, smooth and frizzled, d'uccles, giant cochins, silkies, one splash Maran roo who is in with Light Brahmas, one buff orpington, and two as of yet un-identified hens that both lay colored eggs. Neither of them have the Americauna characteristics, but one lays a blue and the other a green egg. They both came from Ideal hatchery, and I still haven't figured out what they are.
I also have four chicks that came in a "topknot special". I'll have to wait until further maturity to identify the breeds. I just hatched out one lonely little chick from an egg that should have hatched last week. When I candled it, though, it looked to be still developing, so I left it in the incubator and earlier today when I went in to turn eggs, I heard cheeping and there it was, pipping out. This one will be a cross between a white hen (not sure of her parentage) and the Dom. roo. The chick is the most beautiful silver color I've ever seen. Be interesting to see what it turns out to be when it feathers.
Next week, I'm expecting my first hatch of sizzle babies, which will also be an adventure. These I think will all be from my red frizzle roo crossed to white silkie hens.
Oh yeah. I also have three mystery pullets I bought at a sale. They have the black skin and five toes of the silkies, but regular feathers, topknots, and feathering on their legs. All three are variations of kind of a birchen pattern. I'm waiting for them to mature a little more, but really have no idea what the silkie was crossed with to produce these strange little girls.
Some day, I'm going to decide what kind of chickens I want to raise when I grow up!

Oh yeah, the rabbits.
I have lion heads and a Swiss fox. I also have some young breeders that are meat rabbits, but not sure of the breed.
I'm looking at possibly getting a Dutch dwarf and checking into a breeding pair of Continental Giants. (Keeping my fingers crossed
on those!)

I love the iris pics. I have lots of irises, many from old homesteads and the colors are magnificent this year. I have one blooming right now that looks like the pic. posted, but also have several other colors in bloom right. I love flowers! My roses are outstanding this year. I just hope the veggie garden does as well. I have lots of
rooted liners that I started in the greenhouse last fall and over the winter and they are all doing great. I even have one weigela start that is only about 6" tall and has blooms on it. Amazing what things are doing this year. Makes you wish we would never have another cold winter......

Any ideas on the color of this chick? MIL was told they were ameraucanas when she bought them. I am leaning toward pretty EE mix. I have two similar. This one and one that has more dove grey color mixed in. These are close to 7 wks old now. How do I tell the sex on this breed type. I am so used to opingtons and australorps!

I am at a loss with chicks she has been buying for me. LOL Sorry about the fence in the second pic. I also have one that is a light soft grey with darker barring.

Poco and Ksane - IF you are unable to find an indoor home for any of the kittens, I will happily make them my barn cats, but if you can find them happy indoor homes then I would rather see that. None of those are my truly black male cat, so I'm still hoping to find one of those, but he will be an indoor cat when I find him :) I guess I am now in the market for 3-4 barn cats, whenever they find me.
Never fear I have three that will need a home soon too. One grey/white, black/white & callico. They just got their eyes open so I will post pictures soon. I can't keep any of them as we already have 4 cats, three were rescues that were suppose to be fixed, you see how that turned out.

I am on my phone using BYC! Defiantly not typing fast. If there are any puppies you can have first dibs! If she isn't spayed then we could end up with Pyrenees / Shepard pups. If things work out with her I will take her in to get spayed soon, so we don't attract any other suiters.

The green egg gene is dominant and there are chickens that lay green eggs without having a beard or muff. I have a NN that lays a pretty green egg. We have a bantam hen that is a cross between a silkie and a EE bantam roo. The EE bantam roo hatched out of eggs OkCarla got from Okla Doodle. The silkie x EE hen has bright blue ear lobes and lays a very small green egg. All that to say - cross breed chickens are fun to identify.
