Al, missed you yesterday,

I considered going to Newcastle but I was ready to head home and had too much to do when I got here so it was the thing to do.

Foghorn that's a awesome coop and run you have I found your pic's LOL

Now I know I have gone chicken crazy!! These NNs are starting to grow on me. Is there a cure or am I a total goner?

Nope you're a goner. But the good news is that we have about 25 NN chicks that just went outside, 50 in the brooder, 2 trays of 100 each that is waiting to hatch and another 100 waiting to go into the bator this evening. There are some mixes in the bunch but they will turn out with all of the desirable traits of the breed.

It sounds like there were some good buys at the auction last night. Didn't make it this time.

So many things to do today, sooo tired. A nap sounds like a good idea.

I'm hoping not so pretty that they won't be tasty!

That is what they were bred for originally, to be a pretty bird on the table with smoother skin then the broilers.

And to sex a NN clear shots of the tail area is needed to see whether they have saddle feathers with pointy ends or a cushion with rounded feathers. Look at the tails on your adult birds and compare them to your youngsters.

Looks like Fiesty the Silkie was overly cuddled by my other 4 week old chicks. It passed away sometime during the night. My 5 yr old seems pretty brave about it though. She just said if she gets another one of those she is gonna name it Fiesty too :(

What is the average age I should see saddle feathers???
