***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello fellow Okies!

Quick question on feed. I'm newbie and am just trying to figure out what's available around the Tulsa area. I'm wanting organic, soy-free layer feed and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

I know I can get some through Azure for a reasonable price, but just thought I'd pick y'alls brains.

Thanks!

Welcome to the list. We live in mid-town and have a couple of Barred Rocks. I have met two other Tulsa chicken keepers, both very nice. I don't post much but wanted to welcome you.

Dose anyone have any baby ducks?

Show nuff.

If you want a good layer why are you looking for soy free? The birds do very well and lay very on soy based feeds, they are actually much less common than the 60+% corn based feeds.

if you whant organic and soy free i would go with a whole grain mix you should be able to find organic whole grains easyer and cheeper than pellets

I got a surprise tonight when I got home from work. I have a tray of eggs to go into the hatcher of my Marans tomorrow and then some Guineas that go in on the 1st. Went and turned eggs, heard chirping. Listened closely and thought it was Jack's little chicks that are still in the hatching room brooder. Shut the incubator and then decided to candle the eggs that need to be moved tomorrow and go ahead and move them. With mom's surgery tomorrow I don't know that I would remember. Pulled out the drawer with guineas in it and low and behold a sweet little lavender guinea was running around like no big deal in the incubator, lol. Have 5 more pipped. Needless to say the Marans eggs and the Guineas got moved to the hatcher. That poor little guy has been in there all day because he was already dry. Hubby said he thought he heard chirping earlier today but thought the same as me it was Jack's little bantams. Guess I will start moving my guinea eggs a bit early from now on. lol.

Highland feeds has a non GMO, and a non GMO - soy free option, but frankly by the time you pay the extra for shipping, unless you're getting in major bulk, it's almost as expensive as the stuff through Azure. If you need more than the 50 lb bags through Azure, call Magill ranch. I talked to the owner a while back and he was trying to work out something with the Azure people to send a pallet of it at a time.
