***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Teva's birthday was yesterday so I bought her a new phone so she could get the internet and all of that fancy stuff. I swear the instruction book weighs a pound for that thing and it seemed like every time we would touch the screen it would go places that it had never been before. Making a call was pretty easy but we had to ask her son how to answer a call when it came in.

She played with it all day today and has got most of it figured out.

Seems I was lucky and picked a prime location for my coop. The girls congregate there during the day when it's hot outside. Then I installed misters. It's around 80* there in the middle of the day. I sure hope everyone is able to keep their girls & boys cool tomorrow. It's supposed to be 105* here in Noble!! Stay Cool Everyone!

At 10:30 this morning the thermometer in the shop read 110, seems that the ridge vent will only let heat out in the winter time! At 2pm in downtown Kingfisher the temp was 109 and we were just about ready to finish putting a composite floor in a new trailer. In weather like this we move our work out under some shade trees but it was still hot, at least there was a breeze.

In the shop we have a Portacool which helps a lot if we have to work inside. I need to do some welding tomorrow and you can bet it will happen early in the morning.

Bring the little Roo over one day so we can dub him, That way Nathanael can show him this fall.
It sure looks like he has taken good care of them.
I will be happy to work with Nathanael on getting them ready for show and the entry forms etc. There will be several shows in our area, and that bird should do well.

Last night, a storm with 70 m.p.h. winds and heavy rains pummeled our place for about twenty minutes. There were branches falling, tarps breaking loose, and chickens too confused by the suddenness of the storm to figure out that they should go into their coops. I put the soaked chickens into transport cages and carried them into the barn to dry. I'm on my way out now to check on everybody.

Joe - I sent you a PM. I'm going to the sale, but I may not get there until 5:30. I think I have a lot of cleaning up to do here because of last night's winds.

  G'day!

 Back a few years ago a friend of mine couldn't even let her grandkids visit because of all of the big Browns that she was finding. The snakes had followed the rats and mice up to the farmstead during one particularly dry year and they were looking for water.  She was talking about over two meters long. Sounds like your Brown was nearly fresh out of the egg!  LOL

  Relocation is what I like to do with the snakes as well, I use 1/4 inch hail screen on the brooders so they can't get through the wire no matter how small they are. In the winter time when you hear of house fires that started in the attic of unknown causes I would almost bet it is from rats, mice or squirrels chewing on the wiring. Snakes help to keep those critters in check. Every year I get at least one call to go out and re-wire an old wheat truck because rats or mice have destroyed the wiring harness in them, and yes more then once I have got up under a dash only to see a Rat snake up in there hunting which causes quite a stir, with both me and the snake. 

Yeah, I got cats for that. And they don't eat my eggs or chicks.

I had a 50lb bag of rolled oats I picked up a couple weeks ago or so, when I got home from work I had some things in one hand and tossed the bag over my other shoulder with the intent to move it closer to the house so I could get to it easier for soaking or whatever it's about 100 yards from where I started and half way there I decided to set it down and see what had gotten on my arm that felt like it was crawling, I guess the underside of the bag was a good place for an entire colony of pissants to take up residence and I had thrown the whole clump of them on my arm, I abandoned the oats and did a poor version of the ants in my pants dance the other 50 yards while shucking my shirts so they'd stop biting me... Our chickies really should appreciate all that we go through for them sometimes LOL

morning guys! wow that was a noisy nite! so nice out there, gonna be nasty by this afternoon-

I heard thunder all day today. When my husband got home I asked him about it and apparently one of the kids opened the Thunderstorm App on the iPad! Doh! I feel like a dork.

i know you feel silly but i got such a good laugh on it!! So sounds like something i would do!

i got one too, birthday was sunday and got a pantech pocket - kind of like a pda with a phone attached- still trying to figure it out- had to download the manual and am working through it- i am really liking it though! never had a phone with android - so i have to be careful with that touch screen..sheesh- and to think high tech when i was in high school was a ten key calculator!!

ROFL! Robin, I remember the 10 key calculators well haha! Everyone was in awe I could add things up without looking at the keys . I love new devices! Each new device keeps an introvert like me busy for weeks.
We didn't get a drop of rain here-you all who did must be doing a lot better rain dance than the folks in my area.

Les, I hatched out 7 Araucana a month ago from eggs I got online from a great breeder with real nice birds. 4 of the 7 have tails and only 2 have the tufts growing out the side of their faces. Tails and clean faced birds have a place in breeding programs for Araucana people. I've found they don't discriminate like the majority of Ameraucana people do. I'm just not sure why so many Ameraucana people are as rigid as they are. No one denies a Cochin is a Cochin because it's legs are the wrong color or not enough toes are feathered. One thing that's consistant with each and every one of the 13 Arauacana I've got is their temperaments are astounding. I'm still in awe how gentle and kind and calm they are. Another thing I like about the Araucana breed is ALL colors are welcome, they strive to make different colors and they're all still called Araucana.
