***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello Everyone,

Have been gone for a long time. Just so everyone knows, Afghanistan sucks as much the second time as it did the first.

Went to New Castle this past weekend and had a fantastic time. It was great to see so many friends there. There were numerous birds and selling for really nice prices. Scoots and Jamie are doing a tremendous job with the auction. Good to see Bill, glad you got your vehicle repaired. Muesky was ecstatic to have bought a turkey hen. So many other folks that an old man such as myself can't remember. Sorry, not trying to forget anyone.
We texted Al numerous times but never got him to respond.

I can not guarantee that I will be able to attend POOPS this year. A lot of new developments as of late but I will let folks know if I will be able to attend.

J Doc Holloway
Glad you posted on the board.

Wow what a lovely day outside...DH and I walked our property to look for any ice storm or flood damage and it was sooooo gorgeous out there! I always want to linger out there longer than I should. I love the forested areas on our land. So inviting! Fortunately we seem to have been spared all but the occasional downed limb...and all very minor at that. Hooray!
Earlier in the day we went to a new grocery store called Uptown Market in Edmond. I didnt know what to expect but it was really nice! It gives Whole Foods a run for its money to be sure! At least it seemed like it to me as I had to stare at the mushroom section...holy cow they had some there I had never heard of before! I know...I know...I am easily entertained...
My place is small but I sure enjoy walking around it when the weather is nice. Of course I usually have an entourage of dogs, llamas, geese and any cats or chickens that get nosey enough to follow me.

My Nubian finally kidded!!! Found them at lunch, looking out the window & mom was nursing 2 kids! The one with white is a bucking & other doe. Dad is a red boer.

We only have 1 more doe left to kid. Baby goats sure are cute & so much fun!!!!
OMG!!! Seeing those babies so makes me miss my goats but I will resist. I will resist...
Carl and Stephanie came out today to help me pick breeders from this years juveniles. Really appreciate the assistance especially since the Columbians are from his original line. Also learned a lot about the finer points. Also looked over the Cochins and selected some to keep. I'm limiting myself to a few breeders and will be selling the rest.
Will begin prepping boxes for transporting birds to POOPS and that can be used for sale cartons for the Auction at NewCastle....I really am bringing a boatload of birds!
Well you know I will take any of the LF cochins you want to sell. :)
Adorable baby goats!!!! Glad she finally kidded safely for you.

I am more convinced then ever that my cat is 1/2 chicken. I was planting peanuts and dug up several grubs, I just put them in the little paper sack I had the peanuts in to keep safe until I could take them to the chickens. After I was finished planting I took the sack inside and set it on the table while I got a drink before going out to the chickens. While I was sitting there drinking my water Bambam found the sack and was fascinated, and sure enough soon enough she fished out one of the grubs took it out played for a minute then ate it, when she was finished she went back to the sack for a few more.
I think it is just they see the chickens eat it. I have seen my cats eating chicken food and sometimes eats the oats in the morning when I throw it out to the birds.
i splurged on $20.00/lb. Parmesan cheese at Whole Foods for my Birthday last week. Such good flavor makes me wish I could have a 50th Birthday every week
I so love cheese. May have to try that sometime.
Jcat,
I am undecided at this point, although it would be nice to see everyone again between myself and stephanie's work schedules and the kids it is getting tough to make time. We both took a day of vacation today because we had not really seen each other in a few weeks.
We all miss you guys. Tell Stephanie hi for me and I hope you can both make it to POOPS
I used to get goo Parm at the Commisary but they
Didn't have any for a while. I Love cheese but the calories! That aged Parmesan has such rich flavor that I get my cheese "fix" with just a little of that.
Ianded in Michigan at 11:00 pm Oklahoma time, rented a car and got to the farm at 2:00 Michigan time. Took a 4 hr nap this afternoon.
I will be here a week. DH has chicken chores at home. I am going to owe him.
Glad you made it there safe and sound. Hope your trip back is a great one!
JCat, have u tried the new Sprouts in Norman.

Had the 1st chick of the year born. Looks like LF Cochin to me.
Looks almost like a partridge.

One of the Cochin breeders that posts on the Cochins International Facebook page posted that her cat broke into the brooder and killed ALL of her LF chicks! Glad My cat and birds get along great.
I have had chicks running around my yard all the time and none of my cats has ever touched one. It is weird but the cats understand we don't eat family rule. hehehe!

Hi all! I am new to join the site, I posted in the new member introduction area already. It seems like everyone here is like one big family which is nice. My husband and I are wanting to start raising chickens for eggs as well as meat. But before we can decide on what we actually want and do any more research than what i have already done, I need to find out if there is a difference in the Tulsa County vs Tulsa City laws/ordinances, as we live in Tulsa County, not Tulsa City. We also have just under a 1 1/2 acres, and i was reading the other day that it also depends on how the lot is zoned. if any one could point me in the right direction it would be awesome! thank you for letting me butt in :)

We are in Rogers county, with a Tulsa address. I believe if you are out of Tulsa city limits there are no restrictions, provided you don't have a neighborhood association rule against it. You would probably already know if there was a rule against it for your neighborhood. There are none for us, either, but we try to be kind to our neighbors. We have only 2/3 acre and try not to keep more than 4 or 5 roosters total. I find sharing our honey and eggs with the neighbors goes a long ways to improving their tolerance of the crowing.

Welcome welcome! Maybe you can make it to the POOPS gathering next month, People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap, it is our first year to go but I hear it's a blast!
