***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi all! I am new to join the site, I posted in the new member introduction area already. It seems like everyone here is like one big family which is nice. My husband and I are wanting to start raising chickens for eggs as well as meat. But before we can decide on what we actually want and do any more research than what i have already done, I need to find out if there is a difference in the Tulsa County vs Tulsa City laws/ordinances, as we live in Tulsa County, not Tulsa City. We also have just under a 1 1/2 acres, and i was reading the other day that it also depends on how the lot is zoned. if any one could point me in the right direction it would be awesome! thank you for letting me butt in :)

Okie thread!
Lots of good enablers err...I mean good people on here! Like kass said, people will chime in as they come on.

thank you all so much!
we might be able to make it to POOPS and we might not. it is very hectic with kids on all different schedules. but I know we would love to go.
I do not know if we will be getting a rooster right away or not. Our neighbors currently are really sweet and all. but they are wanting to sell their house and have been trying to for a few years now, there isnt anything wrong with there house, just isnt the right time. we were talking about possibly buying it but decided it was not in our best interest financially currently, although it would be nice to have the bit of extra land.
we do have a Tulsa address, but its not in the city, so this could be why i am not finding any useful information anywhere as to county. Lol,
I would love to have bees, my husband is pretty skeptical of it, mainly because of the kids, so i do not blame him. (I actually got on to him the other day for stepping on a bee)

thank you all again, i will keep checking back

Bees are fabulous. My kids only get stung if they step on them or pick them up- ages 7, 5, 3, 1. My 7 yo is super eager for when he turns 8 and gets to work the bees with Daddy! I usually have about 10 hives roughly 50 feet from my backdoor. We have several apiaries, the home one has the smallest hives and nucs we are feeding daily.

Richard, Will wild bees use comb that is exposed? I have a hive (I think, still - it was cold today and it looked like something had gotten into it - but hopefully, the bees were just deeper inside the log) that has exposed comb. I would love to take it - but if they will use it, I can wait until afterwards. I dont want to take too much wax and harm the hive. Thanks! Kim

So cool! My last batch...as i went to pull them from the incubator and put into the hatcher at day 18 - I had a live peeper! No idea how he worked that..the rest of the eggs took a full 22 days to hatch. Congrats!

I have almost equal green eggs (EE moms) and brown eggs (nn moms) and a few white eggs (nn moms) it is odd that all the pipping is going on in the green eggs, no brown egg and only one white one is pipping.

Hello Everyone & Welcome Newbies. I have been super busy right now and apologize for not doing more reminders and updates on Poops. We hope you all can make. BYC is such a community and I know we all value each other. What a better way than to get together, break bread and share/discuss chickens.
