***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks Shelbydog! That's me. My first time incubating, and I had the sheer JOY of being able to watch my first chickie kick out of its egg right before I had to walk out the door and head to work. It was GLORIOUS!!! The incubator was just north of 100 degrees and between 75 and 80 humidity. When I got home the temp was fine, but the humidity had somehow plummeted to 45, even though I hadn't had a single problem with it all week long. One of the chicks had pipped, but hadn't even made it out of the shell. Nothing else had even pipped. I waited and waited, and finally candled and the rest of the eggs aren't even moving.

I'm just heartbroken.

Now I need a friend or two (or more) for this silver grey dorking. Silver grey dorkings would be perfect, but companionship is the goal now. My original goal was to have a large enough flock that I could donate the eggs to the food bank in Skiatook or to the senior citizens in town who need to supplement their incomes with food assistance. Hens are preferred for this, of course. I'm not sure if little Dorcus is a hen or a roo.

I'm in Skiatook, work in Tulsa. If they're under two weeks that would be fantastic! Just let me know where to pick them up and I can come by today Lonnyandrinda! If there's a cost, just let me know. I don't need many, just some companions. I'll PM you my phone number and you can text me your address, if that's okay.

Krazykat0373, thanks tons and tons, but these should be plenty for now until I can get some more dorkins.

Some RIRs have lacing like that when they are chicks.

This is one of the males that came with my Silkies (to supposedly keep them warm in 95 degree heat). I had assumed they were RIR's and about 1/2 of have plain red feathers growing in. The other 1/2 looks like this so i think maybe they put 2 different breeds in there. Anyone know what breed this ?

ideal has rir and production reds so could be a production red i don't know for sure here are some photos of my packing peanuts from ideal
this is what they looked like at the end. i sold them at auction they went for 1$ a piece.

Looks identical to mine, yep. I'm kicking myself so hard for not remembering to tell them NO males for warmth! Remember-my husband is the one who *bought a rooster Saturday at the auction for $1 because he felt sorry for him. Even if i had the heart to sell them for a buck at maturity my husband would be the one buying them and I'd still have to bring them back home lol
(Thanks for your input also, MJ)

Has anybody hatched any chicks this week? I have a friend that only had one hatch this week and it will need a couple of buddies.

Shelby, I have the ones I was just talking about, they're 6 days old but they're all males.

Dear Lord, if I get males, I'll have to call Poco Pollo to get the little melon baller out. It is not in my nature to cull!

:lau ---->melon baller<---- :lau What a perfect name for it lol!! I actually did take my batch of bantam Ameraucana boys to OSU a year ago to have them caponized. The 'expert' vet did leg surgery on 1 that failed and he had to be put down. Then she caponized 1 and he immediately bled to death. I told her just to stop there and I'll come get them all. It's no understatement to say I trust Poco much much more.
