It's all coming back to me now .......................................................... why it has been more years then I care to admit publicly since I painted the walls in the house.

That's where I'm at right now....

I agree on caponizing, poco has done quite a few of mine and is very knowledgable and knows her stuff=

meanwhile- my one hatch this week, luckily i have enough broodies, a single hatchling just gets to be spoiled by a broody

gonna be a spoiled baby

The two chicks posted above are ADORABLE!!!

And yes, they're black. And a couple of them have curly-feathered wings.

I also found a barred rock and a buff orpington that were both a week old, so I have quite the little collection now.

Thank you to everybody.

well, EE's can be about any color- i have one now that at first had dark brown feathers, now he is lightening up almost a lacy type feather- papa is a white EE, so you really never know with them

She sent me a pic of those chicks. Black ee chicks?? Always see pics of them with chipmunk markings. Black ameraucana over _____???

Awe, so glad you came and got them! I had to laugh that you took all 5. Wish I could have been here to discuss bees; another time perhaps.

Shelby- Black Ameraucana roo X RIR hen. EEs can be any color, they are a mixed breed with the blue egg gene. The females look more or less like this when grown. Some have beards some do not. The males have red and white patches on their backs and wings.

This is the color of eggs they lay:

With this cooler weather my girls have started laying pretty good. I've got 8 girls. I received 4 eggs on Sunday, 3 eggs Monday, and 5 eggs Tuesday. Looking forward to what today will bring.....
Has anyone heard of putting Cayenne in the chicken feed to increase laying in the colder months of winter. I read on this site where somebody does this and their birds lay like gangbusters.
