***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@hotcurltr I hate that you lost her. I often wonder why we always lose the ones we care for the most. You beat yourself up that you didn't do enough, but she probably lived longer with your care. Big hugs, girl.

So glad Friday is here!!! It has been a long week...
A bit off topic but last week I went to Habitats for Humanities resale store looking for a pedal stool sink and low and behold they just happened to have one in great shape, just what I was looking for and I got it for $40..

Anyway while I was there oogling over all the stuff I would like to get for all my renovation projects I found there really cool seat pads, brand new, still in the plastic for $2 each.. The ironic thing about this is Doc and I were talking about needing some kind on pads for the seats at the auction because we are both so broken that sitting on those cold hard metal chairs really hurts. So searching for a sink, low and behold they had these pads, as well for a really great price.. I bought all 8 of them. A month ago going to see relatives Doc took me to the quilting/fabric shop and I found some really cute chicken fabric "ON SALE" so guess what my next sewing project is going to be???

Has anyone ever seen this color of Orpington before???

If you haven't they are called Isabel Cuckoo Orpington. These are available from a lady on the BYC who put some eggs on ebay. Check it out at:

I WANT so bad! Apparently only she and one other breeder have them in the US. The other breeder had them imported. How hard is it to import chicks or eggs? Im under the impression that it is terribly expensive. Either way I really REALLY want these but my husband said no. 4 hatching eggs, less than 2 days left and they are at only $73.98. Oh this hurts. If I knew how to breed this color I would do it!

I want to give a shout out to Rinda for incubating 2 dozen eggs for me. Luckily it was dark when I dropped the eggs off so I didn't get all googly eyes over her rare breed collection.

Oh yes the exporter has to get special vet testing and certification then they have to ship to usda customs quarantine and you have pay them to care for and retest/ inspect the birds THEN they ship to you. My understanding is $4500 to bring over 2 or 3 pair. And if they test sick they will be destroyed, or they can die from exposure to new bugs here you are just out of luck. Eggs will rarely be viable still after the long journey and the flock has to be tested and certified still. I'm working with a lady to import some of my lines to Canada. I have to be inspected and tested by a USDA vet, then I have a 30 day window to ship eggs to a post office in north Dakota, and she will drive down with the paperwork to pick them up and take them across the border. Even with the correct paperwork she said there is a small risk they will confiscate the eggs and not let her cross with them.

insert evil laugh.... you have to come back to pick them up... ;-) Had an EXCELLENT hatch this week, my first big one for the year. LOTS of girl Cream Legbars, last count was 14 female and 4 male! Not keeping any males as they are all cinnamon tinted (means wrong color when they grow up). All the Isbars hatched, 4/6 leghornXCream Legbar, and all but 3 CLs (those 3 were pullet eggs so no surprise there).

Here are most of them, lots of girl cream Legbars! A few isbars were "spinners" (sit on their butt and spin in a circle when they kick their legs) but after two doses of baby vitamins they are walking fine this morning. They are still in a separate brooder for today. Not sure why this happens only for the isbars but i assume I need to give the parents more vitamins?
