***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote:
I cover them with water and heat for 5 minutes in the microwave...make sure they are covered by at least an inch of water.

My Brotherinlaw fills his pint jars with okra, vinegar and spices and simply heats the jars in the microwave, takes them out and then puts the lids on...his seal nicely that way.

Carl, I met a man and woman today at the swap meet. (Forgot names already) They were looking for some chickens for their kids to show. When I found out they were from Bethel, I asked if they knew you. Which they did. He said he works with you but he didn't know you had any chickens.

So what kind of secret operation are you running there that your neighbor and co-worker don't know you have chickens?

Since my last post around noon. Hubby came in after wetting down the shade cloths on the pens and told me one of the Columbian wyandotte pullets was acting funny so I went to check. She was lethargic and had a full crop, but her tail was down and abdomen was very warm. I brought her inside to cool her down. While there was no foul odor, I suspect an impacted crop. She ate some yogurt and I was able to do a gentle massage on her crop so that it was "mushy" to the touch. She had a tepid bath and a giant poop. She ate more yogurt, another massage and preened for 20 minutes. She is now sleeping with her head tucked under a wing on sawdust with food and water closeby. Will keep her inside for a few days to really keep a close eye on her. Haven't given any shots yet....will wait and see. Of the two pullets she is the smallest and the sweetest. No name yet.

In the meantime, I have cleared all cages from the hot tub room, sprayed with pinesol for the flies and sprayed cages with oxine. The birds are stacked on top of the dog pen in the carport with a nice breeze blowing thru. I'm also setting off a bug bomb in the hot tub room .... the flies have gotten ahead of me in there and I decided to take drastic measures. It will be another hour before I air out that room and vacuum up the fly carcasses and finish sterilizing the surfaces.

well, lets see here.

i have read back a little ways and noticed that the question of whether or not the birds were doing anything at the time of pickup was answered. so i will ask again,

were these birds visibly sick at the time they were picked up? no they were not or you wouldnt have gotten them.

did they tell you anything about swollen eye's before you got them? yes they did.

who picked out the birds you took? oh you picked your own birds didnt you.

i saw where you quarantined the birds in your house, where were these birds before you got them? they have been outside in the open since they were around 3-4 weeks old.

i believe you may have a problem on your end, something in transport or care AFTER you picked up the birds.

The problem may be on your end.

tuna fish or peanutbutter

Is this a poll? I prefer peanut butter but if it is on a sandwich, I'll take the Tuna. With Miracle whip and onion of course.
