***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I've read differing things... the best conclusion I have been able to come to is that is it PROBABLY genetic so not to breed crossbeaks.

X2! Sorry.
X2

Cross beak isn't just the beak it is a skull deformity, the earlier it shows the more severe it will become. If you keep a cross beaked bird you will need to have a deep dish for food they can scoop w/ instead of pecking for food. You also may need to trim the beak periodically depending on how bad it is.

Thanks Kass, not the first i've had, seems like her top beak is turning to the side the bottom is straight, so am hoping i can work with her to minimize it- Cressy my fav crossbeak the bottom jutted to te side-

coweta is this side of broken arrow, about 30 minutes from us-
See. I don't know where anything is in this state. I have lived here long enough that I have no excuse really. I guess its because I don't know where it is until I travel there. Robin, that is a cutie even with a cross beak!

The snow is melting! The sun is shining! Making this a great day for the chickens to get out and stretch their wings! SO GREATFUL!

Coweta is easy to get to, and really close to Tulsa. Dusti and I have been a couple of times, and I'm not resistant to going again!

There's a chill in the air,
And there's snow everywhere,
Chicks are warm in their lair
Broodies act like a bear.
And the breeders are loving their grain on the ground
While the humans are snuggled again in their home.

@NanaKat Did we have a little something special with our morning coffee...? lol
Just teasing!

I looked and I can't go to the Coweta auction this month.

I have to take my oldest to "Superstart" along with I don't know how many other kids that are going on this church event. Darn it. I asked hubby if he minded if we go to the other one this Sat. in Nowata but it's looking to be bad weather and I'm not willing to risk freezing my rear off in that building again. I will try Coweta next month.

HELP!!!! DOG PROBLEMS

I have a 2 year old Great Pyranese black Lab mix. It's taken months but we've trained him that the chickens belong and he watches them very carefully. Keeps the cats away, keeps hawks away. He's quite attentive. Most of the time he is laying out there and the dumb chickens are crawling all over him. He lets them eat his food and there favorite place is in his dog house. But sometimes, out of the blue he will start chasing them. Twice he has gotten one. He doesn't injure them. Just catches them, holds them down. Yesterday he did this and grabbed it and held it in his mouth. I had to open his jaws to let the chicken out. It wasn't hurt and after it rejoined the group I can't tell which one he got. I don't know what is setting him off. This particular time the chicken was outside the fence. Maybe he was trying to get it to go back in. Idk. I can chain him up when they are out but the crazy chicken won't stay out of his house and food. For that matter they basically walk into his mouth. Help! Any suggestions?

Yeah. Likely for March, from what I can tell...

As long as they still have it, that's good.

Cute calf!!! Guess the super bowl is over. I know I'm a football grouch. My husband usually watches but he was working. I missed the commercials. That is actually my favorite part of it, the funny and cute commercials. We did catch the last 15 min of it and I saw those but nothing like the ones during.
Kid's school was called off. Gave the chickens the fermented feed and they inhaled it. Especially the boys.
I'm thinking of talking Hubby into going to the auction in Nowata this coming Sat. They said they had the kinks worked out... maybe that means heat? Anyone else planning on going? When is the one in Coweta? (Is that the one near Muskogee? I don't know my directions.)
Football has been forced on me my whole life from brothers, husbands and sons. So I know what u mean. However, since I am from Co. I was terribly disappointed over the Broncos poor playing skills ormaybe Seattle just took it over. ANYWAY, there is an Auction in Okmulgee either Tuesday Wednesday. I forgot which day, because I am planning, if the weather isn't bad to take some ducks, since I can't seem to give them away. Hint Hint.
