***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Newcastle auction tonight and..... SILKIES!!!!!

They have a trio of lavenders, a pair of blacks, and a pair of partridges. There is also, from the same person, a really nice white roo, a paint roo, and a buff and partridge roo. All look pretty good to me.

Also a few turkey pairs - the light red type, some barred rocks, smaller banties. One guinea. Two dozen rocky mountain buff eggs. Some turkey eggs bourbon and maybe something else, don't remember. Some guinea eggs. Oh, and a whole slew of Braggs buffs...I know they are special, but it has been so long since we really looked into the buff chickens that I don't remember the specific. I thought that one was coughing - kept hearing the noise but the LOOKED great. Come to figure out that it was the male turkey doing what he does to sound enticing to his hen!  NO COUGHING!

Also, some silver laced wyandottes, buff orpingtons, smallish easter egger type hens...

One brooder and a bunch of candlers.

This was all at 1pm, so you know there will be tons more stuff.

I know a bunch of you will be going to Coweta - enjoy! Will miss you here.

Oh,  @mjgigax
  - our turkens are beginning to lay again. I think I will set the eggs on Monday just to see what is what. I am thinking if you come to next months auction, I will have a dozen of their eggs or so for you. The bird that is laying now is a dark frizzle. If she continues saying, I am thinking the sire may be the sshowgirl.... although I have yet to see him breed them. So, they may all be infertile. But that is the second step - the first step is to be laying.

I was there eyeing those silkies! But I didn't get to stay long, was just meeting up with a breeder bringing chicks for me! Some beautiful silkies tho, I'm sure they found a lovely home!

It was neat tho, my first time at a poultry auction! And I absolutely love all my new babies!

@Ksane moved the eggs from you into lockdown today - one day late...and I already had a small pip ((doh!)). Green egg that was the first to go into the very humid hatcher. My incubator is dry, so this can only be a change for the better...and I have had (once in a while) babies hatch early in the incubator. So the dry does not HAVE to mean a problem. Fingers crossed for us! Only two of the Malay eggs made it to lockdown, so we will see how they do.
How do u do the blue names ei, @Ksane
I think I just figured it out.LOL I was on the tutorial last night and couldn't find anything on it. I had ,er, hubby had a friend hatch some eggs for us. I think there are 26 The last ones finished last night and he had us come get them because he wa going out of town and didn't want the responsibiliity I guess? Anyway, brand new babiesw/o a mama. my first time. It was a little scary.. I was thinking about putting my swedish flower eggs under a broody hen and putting the ones she's on in the incubator. We put them in last night, but hubby said the thermomators(sp) are reading different. I think he has three in there. I would rather my golden laced polish hatched more, but I do have another broody who has only been setting 2 days, but it's her first time and she's shy so I'd have to put her in a cage on her eggs first and make sure she does't quit and I can put them under her. I just need 4 more broodies and then I wouldn't have to worry about the incubator. I think we bought 52 different type of eggs. I can't remember. I'll have to have hubby count. There are some breeds I really want, because I like the different ones, like the brabanters, different types of polish, the sultans, sumatra, ionly one BLRW, I know we got more. types. Isn't this terrible not being able to remember anything? I know that there are two Isbars. I'm actually crazy about breeding them to tne NN I will buy from Kass, if they hatch, which I'm going to do positive thinking so they will. I still haven't boutht any silkies for the showgirls, but they are pretty easy to obtain. I'm just not crazy about buying any more straight runs, and raising them and then having to decide who to keep or put in freezer camp, which I haven't done yet. Somehow I always manage to give the boys away. I know someone was talking about a swap, but I think I'd still feel bad.
@shelbydog Do u have any Russian Orloff cockerals or roos u want to sell. I have an aquaintance that has a pullet and looking for a mate for her. I think it was u that had them wasn't it.?

No I didnt. Put his nuggets back in and give him back please. lol

@Poco Pollo I have quite a few cockerals in the age range u are looking for,l for your next small clinic. If they become too old by the time u need them I should have more. I'd love to learn, but my eyesight is really poor, but I have nueropathy in my hands and never know how they'll be, so I won't take any chances on killing one.

My husbands grandparents have both been deceased for several years, the property has been for sale since at least 2008. The family has been gradually chipping away at the huge amount of things amassed in their house, shed, shop, and the old gas station out front. A fire last summer ruined what was left of the house which was sad. Tonight while we were there for an easter egg hunt and cookout, and my father-in-law unlocked the gas station for us to take a look around. I have never stepped foot in there, it has always been packed to the ceiling with "treasures." (I call it the Myers Packrat gene) BUT tonight I found some cool treasures of my own. Three wood and one metal Old Trusty incubators. Not sure yet what I want to do with them. They have quite a bit of water damage from the leaky ceiling in the station.

Sorry, I'm going to hog this twice. Hello all you newbies. My name is Diana and I am a chicken junkie.

I will tell the story of how it progressed one day. The excitement of all the members and the pictures on here, was the contributing factor. I am now finished aquiring more chickens, except what I have already planned on. NN from Kass some silkies, for showgirls. I love them all they are special and unique individuals. I have some favorites. which I shouldn't. My C/W crosses have stolen my heart. I have asked hubby to contact a couple of people on this thread if something happens to me so my babies will go to good homes. Hmmmm, maybe I should contact those people, so they won't be surprised.

Was wondering if anyone out there is doing a dry hatch and if so what tgeir humidity stayed at
John Wilkins does plenty of them and has written some things about it. I think he's from Wewoka. You can find his page on facebook and pm him. I wish I knew how to do it for u, but I'm pretty computer illiterate and learn as I go.

I do a dry hatch with my SFH eggs. (or if I was going to do Marans eggs as well). I keep my humidity at 45 ish up to day 18. Then up to 55 or 60 for entire lock down. Good luck with the hatch!

The dorking is beautiful! I can see why so many of us are jonesing for them. VERY glad to hear hubby is doing well!
Thank you! I have two and they are so sweet and docile. I really love that breed! And thanks, he is still like a squirrel in a box and drives me a bit crazy because he NEEDS to get OUT! LOL!

I finally have a kid on the ground

we bred them kind of late this year and it has been agonizing waiting for them, lol.
Awww!!!!! My hubby wants to get a goat for a pet. I'm not sure if I really want one yet... They are so cute as babies though!!!

Nancat
The young birds range in age from 1 week to 3 weeks and are from the Columbian OEGB improvements and Columbian Rosecomb projects. Much like the little Buff Columbians from last year and the year before. They should be super sweet little birds and a real pleasure to have but I am very limited on space at the moment. If you are interested in them just call I will be here all weekend dealing with boy's trucks and hopefully get the lawn mowed while I am at it.
I figured for sure someone would want a few bantam chicks for easter. They are free just to get them off my feed bill and to a home where someone can enjoy them.

I picked up 13 of these really sweet cuties today and have them settled in a brooder with some newly hatched Wyandotte and Buckeye chicks. Thank you Carl!

This morning was spent planting tomatoes in our garden. Then made it to Carls to pick up chicks and back home to plant out broccoli and lettuce. Peppers will go out tomorrow. It better not freeze now!
