We are still watering the garden...less than 1/4 inch rain for the three days.

Roger mentioned this morning we might need to set out a few hay bales if we don't get rain.
Plans to move part of the herd to grass on property in Prague and Choctaw are still on hold until June 15 when we will add a bull to each group of cows. That will mean calving starts about mid April next spring.

Chickens are enjoying the cooler temps under overcast skies....so are we.

Hope everyone enjoys this special Holiday!
Thank you to those of you who have served our country.

I'm glad some of you guys are getting some of this rain! We've got maybe 1/4 inch on Saturday. I'm praying we get a decent amount over the next few days! Some runoff into the dry/almost dry ponds would be awesome, but at this point I'll be estactic with any at all!

I do have other chickens, besides Rudy, here's proof, lol

This boy so far is pretty even black / white ratio, w/ very splotchy patterning.

This girl I think is so pretty

This little boy is going to be small, has araucana father, I think his color is going to be striking, he hatched from a green egg, has a pea comb, and the pea comb/nn feather coverage.

I love this girls coloring

This boy also has araucana heritage and tufts!

Love this girls look

Is she going to be mottled?

Besides Rudy, I think the second and third to last are my favorites!

Here are the pics of the quilt I've been working on. There are just 2 threads I need to tie and bury.

The fabric side. Hard to see in the pic but in real life you can see the quilting stitches. So you can see the infinity sign and on the date column side you can see 3 stitching lines to signify the "three strand cord" of God in the marriage. The hard geometric lines of the city buildings in the date column w/ the soft flowy feminine lines of the brocade. The date in the column being there but not really obvious was a conscious descision.

The crocheted side the infinity shape is more obvious, chosen as a more modern grown up symbol for eternal love and marriage then the "heart" sign. The 3rd quilting line on this side is there but more subtle again a conscious choice for the "3 strand cord" idea.

Over all I am happy w/ the results, really pleased w/ the symbolism I was able to incorporate, and the personalization of the date and colors/style. Still not sure if I nailed "modern contemporary" design. Glad it is over, glad I pushed my design envelope, haven't stressed over design this much in a long time.

Good googly moogly, the as-yet-unidentified pullet laid another egg, poor girl. I'm pretty sure I knowwhich one she is. That's a good sized Marans egg next to it. Jumbo eggs are 2.5 oz or greater, and the weight on this one is 101.2g, or 3.57oz.

I don't know if they'll hatch, since she's still young, but I'm putting them in the bator just in case.

Wow. Does this mean its a double yolk? And if so could it still be fertilized? That egg is huge!

Bumpers lays eggs almost that large with only an occasional double yolk. This is the second I've gotten from this pullet, and the first is already in the bator and showing an embryo. I'd like to work toward a whole flock of hens that lay eggs like this.

Whats a bumper? And if an egg has a double yolk could it still be fertilized? Newbie question here!
