***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@lonnyandrinda Im so sorry. I believe that is called a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day and those days are almost ALWAYS Mondays. If it makes you feel any better we went out to the land yesterday to do some work and it was dark by the time I got home. And stormy. I had to scramble to find all my chickens, move them around, put them in dry coops (we have 1 coop that has a lid that stays open during the day and it was soaked) I felt like an awful chicken mama. Especially since my sweet Birdie was right by the back door which is where she comes to get me every evening.

She didn't even try to find a dry spot. I had lots of wet confused chickens.

@NanaKat Im sure hoping for the best for you. If you need any help please let me know, Im not too terribly far and I could bring the baby and wear him on my back. Arlo and I would love the opportunity to see your place and help out with your chickens for however much you need us to. It would be good for us to see a working farm. Please take me up on it!!!! Weekends are best but I could maybe figure out a weekday soon.

@erinszoo I sure hope you can get out of the place you're in. Bad neighbors can really ruin a persons life. I know that sounds dramatic but I believe our homes should be our sanctuary and if we feel unsafe or fear for our animals then something needs to change. Thats no way to live.

I only found the favus because the way she described it reminded me of the time I got a whole week's worth of IV antibiotics in the hospital and woke up with a godawful full-body yeast infection. Anything that touched me would set me off into skin-crawling itching, so I was googling chicken fungal infections to see if it fit. Personal experience is a gross teacher.

Think of related terms that fit to trigger hits online...
Google "chicken cheesy fungal disease"
Combination "GROSS/EUREKA!" moment

Gag... skin crawling just thinking about it.

Rinda, I'm so sorry! I hate that feeling the 1st 5 seconds when you realize a special bird is gone. Breaks my heart every single time.

@Kyzmette Wow, good call on the ringworm. Entirely possible!

I know Dusti wants some of the pullets.
I'll do some rearranging and will post what is available....and what can go to auction.

Anxiously awaiting your list! Will there possibly be any LF pullets or hens? I've been hoarding my Gold laced Cochin boy for a year now planning on getting some good sized girls for him. Not going to breed him so they don't even have to be Cochins. He's so pretty and such a sweet boy. I hate that he's in a bachelor yard & just hangs off by himself.

Jeez!!! Young chicks are cannibals! I put my 6 wk old Silver Leghorn pair in the 4x8 pen with the 12 Bantam Ameraucana chicks and they scalped them in a matter of ours! OMG! I though both were dead at 1st (that horrible feeling again) but they were both alive, barely. I brought them in and slathered their heads with Neosporin. They're acting way better now & I think they'll make it. These were the only 2 chicks to hatch from 18 shipped eggs, the only shipped eggs I hatched this year-for $50. It looks like they'll be my "deck birds" and get a heater in winter and the swamp cooler in summer. My poor precious $25 babies :-(

We're building a wall in a 12x14 room, it's going to be the Bird room! I'm excited-can you tell?? I just can't bear to place my Seramas who trust me to keep them for life-such a sap! So this will be their room, they'll get 3/4 of it and the rest will be open for the dogs. I'm thinking big screen TV? lol Not really.

I have *2 eggs incubating from Channing's Henlet! The 1st either started growing or stopped or it's still growing, the 2nd I just put in 2 days ago. He's my best rooster of all time and it'd be so awesome if I could always have a part of him for years to come. I'm going to be inconsolable when I lose him.

Oh! And i have Pigeons sitting on eggs! The boys sit during the day and the girls sit at night while he perches right outside their nests. I guess they're watching out for predators (in their roofed and stockade panel pen-lol)

I have 2 LF cochin pullets I would love to give you! We're realizing we won't have 2 coops done as quickly as possible and need to find a home for our 3 LF girls (1 is a marans) I'm just afraid of joining the silkies with the LF but I know the bantams and silkies will be fine together for a few weeks. The SFHs have a run inside a run. Anyway, I can get pictures of the cochins if you'd like. They're 3-4 months old and best friends. Heck you can have the Marans too if you want her!

Yes! You have a deal :-D That'd be awesome! How old are they? I can just just let them grow up in their own area and then add him when the girls are old enough. He's 18 months so he'll at least be past the hormone-filled teenage stage by the time the girls are old enough to be with him.
Thank you so much!!!
Edit: I mean I *do want the Marans also, too :)) All 3.
Edited again because i'm obviously too excited to express myself properly-I see they're 3 months old. Cool! We'll trade off when we meet up for the others.

Yea! I'll get some pictures for you. They're incredible looking. Arlo will be so happy you're taking them. He wanted to give you some chickens for taking care of the ducks :) I can bring them to you/meet you anytime this week or keep them a little longer if you need me to.

that is awful Rinda, maybe you could put some electric fencing around your quarantine pens too. But of course that doesn't help when there is not electricity.

A-HA! Just saw your last edit! We're really shooting for having the barn done not this weekend but next. If not it will be the 1st weekend in September after we move in. So if that's the case could I get these girls to you before the 1st and get the ducks the following weekend? I feel like this project is taking forever, and it is.
Edited to add I know those ducks are alot of work and we are so grateful. The barn is right after this coop on the priority list. I promise! And actually we've been slowly clearing it as we get the wood out to use on the coop.

Yup! Any way you want to do it! I'll get them a spot ready :))
