***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Can anyone give me more info on the Poultry show this weekend. When. Where ect

This Saturday in Norman at the fairgrounds. Starts at 9.

I've had kind of a crappy chicken day. DH sweetly surprised me with bantams from Atwoods, the last of the bin. So you know what that means right??? All boys. I can't be 100% sure yet, but I'm about 80%. It's just such a bummer. I don't know what to do with them. I'm so frustrated.

@lonnyandrinda so sorry about all the loss you've had with the bcms. They are not a cheap breed! I'm sure you know that ;)

Anyone have problems with Copperhead snakes bothering their chickens?
Just before dark this evening as i was about to lock up the chicken coops in the barn, there was this beautiful adult Copperhead just waiting for me inside the utility pen. I saw him as I reached for the gate. He never moved as I slowly moved down the corral and climbed over into the pen with him, and a garden rake hanging on the wall. Probably the meanest pit viper in these parts, I cautiously approached him, and he never offered to retreat. I slammed the back of the steel rake on him, pinning him down, as he lashed at me as he could with those little fangs jutting out.

Anyways, I've never seen a poisonous snake in a barn. Usually just rat snakes, and that's only in the springtime. This guy was 15 feet from my 5 week old baby chicks, peeping, and getting ready to go to roost. Man; and here I've been going out there in the dark, w/o a flashlight. Gives me the creeps now that I think about it.

its getting cooler. The snakes will be moving anywhere its warm now. Copperheads scare me more than rattlers. At least they rattle. I've never seen one take a chicken, but a baby chick might be fair game as they kind of look the size of mice and I bet you have a heat lamp for them too.
