I have tetracycline powder, can I use that? Thanks for the help!!

I would not use tetracycline. The OTC powder you can buy at the feed store is VERY low dose, plus it isn't usually great at treating respiratory as NanaKat explained.

Ashtree....Oxine is an antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial. It is great as a preventative. While it may be helpful with a bird already exhibiting symptoms, it will not heal the problem. I use Oxine and keep it on hand for treating drinking water, disinfecting and treating eggs before incubation. You cannot use Oxine with other products because it will cancel out their benefits.

I use Oxine year round unless I'm using the drinking water to treat for worms, etc.
Oxine can be purchased by the gallon on Amazon.com and can be shipped by Fed EX.

The coat has really worked. Rudy has been out this entire time. He still doesn't like it at all, but I think if he knew it was either the coat or stuck inside he would pick the coat.

Good to hear! Way to go Rudy!

My two white marans died yesterday... Molly and Anna. :( not sure what happened but it has been very very cold.

I'm so sorry you lost your pretty girls. It seems odd both would die on the same day. Chickens typically do okay in the cold unless there are complications. Be sure to keep a close eye on the rest of your flock.

Yes. same dosage for Bantams and large fowl ...one gelcap for two days. The Bantam will be able to swallow the gelcap.

What about erythromycin?
In a pinch, a Dayquil capsule can be used by pulling a 1/4 cc of "juice" from the gelcap and add enough water for 1 cc. Give this to the bird orally twice a day. Especially helpful if the bird has a temperature.
Tetracycline is more for intestinal/gut issues as it clears anaerobic bacteria from the gut....similar to someone who has diverticulitis.

I'm glad you posted about oxine. I never have put it in the drinking water. How often and how much?

Leah, one of my C/W crosses hatched 3 eggs yesterday . She was in the shed and something got most of her eggs, she still had one under her and one that died. It looked like it rolled out bedore it was finished pipping and froze.
I don't know why so many of my girls insist on setting on the ground in the shed. Today, it is almost turned into another chicken coop. I haven't got it all insulted yet, but it will work for now.
I have a question for those of you who use 2 x4;s for the roosts. I've seen pictures of them turned both ways. With the perching on the 2" and others on the 4" part. It makes more sense to me to put the 4" part up. so I'm asking because I want to try and get the roosts up tonight. Also, if it is the 4" would a 4x1 work? I have both, but more 4x1's
Here's some pictures I took last night when checking on the chicks. (I put her in a cage in the main coop w/ a heat lamp in tne cage. Why they want winter babies, I'll never know.) Anyway, I have a muscovy duck and australorpe hen sharing a nest in the shed under the nest boxes. The puppies thought it was a good place too. They're 8 weeks now so I need to advertise them

They go all the way across. I thought it was cute.
Since Olivia is setting on duck eggs, I'll relent and give her some chicken eggs, I have some I want hatched. One of my showgirls was setting and quit and therefore ruined the eggs. I have 4 from my other showgirl, she layed one a day so they're new. Is it ok to give LF Banty eggs? I'd like to put a couple of olive eggs under her w/ them.
@lonnyandrinda if I get a pullet do I breed her back to An Ameraucana or Black Copper Maran? I pulld up a genetics site and saved it. Will try to learn, but my memory doesn't retain things like it did.

Just maybe 1/2 tsp per gallon. I just go a "glug." When I do it, which is not every time.

Yes you can give a LF banty eggs.

I'm a little confused what you are asking. What will the pullet be and what is your end goal?

On the Oxine,
1/8 Tsp per gallon will sterilize the water, 1/4 Tsp per gallon will keep the algae out of the water. You can use it occasionally or all the time it will not hurt anything.

1 tsp per gallon for sterilizing eggs and incubator / hatcher

You can also use it to "fog" an area by adding citric acid crystals, this is good for brooders or buildings where you might keep birds or other livestock.

For those who keep dogs Oxine will kill the Parvo virus it is a wonderful product very useful

For those un-aware we have a new Poultry supply house in Mcloud, they have Oxine in stock for pick up or shipped, as well as drinking and feed cups, shipping boxes and many other good things.
The contact is Mike Geiss 405-761-8339 Mike is a great guy and is well known for his birds you can find them at many of the local shows or call them.

Yikes. I think I've only missed about 100 pages or something. I've had rocky mountain spotted fever. I don't recommend it.

Anyway, we finally got some new rabbits to add to our group and one of them has already had babies. 5 sweet little bundles of fur and the momma is being really really good. Even in the cold weather she has them all covered up with fur.

Hope you are on the mend! I will be needing pictures of those babies! How sweet!!!

@NanaKat I went to two stores looking for fishmox! Didn't find it! They are also sold out of heated dog bowls and red heating lights! I am hoping he makes it through the night and I will start calling places in the morning. His nose is dripping like a faucet (mine too) and he is breathing weirdly through his mouth! I don't think I have any DayQuil either. I had him in the garage all day but decided to bring him in the house tonight. I draped towels over his crate. I hope that is the right thing to do! Being a chicken momma is hard!

I'm working on a curtain for the dining area. It is visually in the same space as the living room so I am coordinating colors. When it is finished it should be a 3D optical illusion globe, here it is now

It still needs a few more rows, but I finally got it to a size where I can start working on the illusion part. The whole curtain will be made w/ 1 and 3 inch squares, and this fabric is upholstery weight.
