***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi there!

Sorry about the heat in TX - not much better here, but at least in the Northeastern part of the state we've had a little bit of rain the past couple of days. Hang in there - winter will come again and we'll be able to gripe about the cold! Tell Doc hello.

Hi Stingray - I know there are a few people on here who have Turkeys, but they're in the south/central part of the state. I don't know of anyone with hatching eggs for sale in this part of the state... I've also heard that some are having trouble hatching this year - you might consider buying poults if you're raising birds for the fall and winter holidays.

City - I found my cell phone, battery completely dead, on a pile of reeds I'd cut down with my scythe. The twist one has to do to make the half-circle with the blade must have been what knocked the holster off my belt. DH was glad that I found it.

I've lashed the two largest branches on this tree so I can lower them to the ground after I've cut them away from the trunk. Standing on a ladder among the branches of this big, wet pine tree made me think of climbing trees as a kid. This would not have been a good climbing tree: too scratchy. I'm working slowly and carefully. I'll take another picture once I've got the limbs safely on the ground.

Yeah, the birds will be for holiday meat, but I'm not interested in buying poults. I've got a new incubator I want to try out. Thanks for your input. Anyone else?

Still here.

Wicked storm the other night, didn't lose anything.

It's hot, hot, hot! Heat Index warning of 104 deg F for today. Had to make doubley sure all the birds had some water before I came in to work.

Had a hen hatch out some babies today on the yard. cute buggers! Hope the cats don't get them. They were inside a barrell when I left.

Is anyone getting their feed mixed in bulk @ the a local feed mill? I know you can get it mixed as small as 100 lbs in Carnegie & have heard that the feed store in marlow could also mix feed. I have the reciepe that a farmer is using @ the carnigie mill, but Marlow would be closer. Just need to see if Marlow has the ingredients. Tried calling them, but the lady couldn't even tell me what they used as the protien source. Think I will have to drive out. There take a few recipes & see if they have enough ingredients on hand. I think scratch is the only thing they sell on the shelves that they mix there. The layer they order, so I am not sure if they will have the ingredients to mix layer.

Just wondering what anyone else around here is doing. Since we are just getting moved out to our place most of our chickens are still on starter. I haven't done a head count, scared to actually. Each of my girls have a few types of chicks they wanted to hatch out & of course I have my own too! DH says we can keep 60. But the other day he did mention I could keep 100 chickens in the barn. Wonder if he was saying 100 @ the barn plus chickens in all 3 of the other coops.
