Wouldnt recommend a .22, cause if you miss the shell can carry a LONG way. Most folks have neigbors too close to get away with a .22.

Thanks for that note. I am still in my "living in the country" mode and keep forgetting that we now have to keep close neighbours in mind.

A good shotgun is the best to have the smaller pellets do not carry too far at all, and they are offered in several sizes. they are also one of teh best home defense tools one can have, just point and shoot they will spread and get the point across so long as you point in the general area. the .410 is great for young shooters and for thise things you want to sting real bad and up close can do a lot of damage, a 20 gauge is the next step and is offered in youth, ladies, and sporting guns, niether of these two kick very bad and are not nearly as loud, powerfull, or carry as many pellets, or can shoot the distance as a 12 gauge.

Has anyone been to the Okmulgee Livestock Auction? Do you know what their commission on goat sales is? I know they had a sale yesterday August 16th. Do they sell every Tuesday, every other Tuesday, Every third Tuesday or what?

I couldn't speak for that auction but most charge a 15% commission unless they are trying boost sales on certian animals or items then they will sometimes drop the rate for certian things. Hopefully someone close to there or familiar with that sale can help you out.

Many thanks to all of you who responded to my plea for suggestions about the maurading dogs. We've spent the day looking around and pricing different solutions and we'll use some. We'll let you know what works and what doesn't. We live in a relatively new development on the outskirts of the city and know all this building is infringing on not only wildlife habitat (seen racoons and skunks and a fox so far) but also the free ranging animals (dogs). We think these dogs have just gotten used to running and now...killing. I am most concerned for the neighborhood children - we have lots - and the idea of a pack of killing dogs is just scary.
I'm convinced when there is another attack, we will discourage the predators from future interest in our girls.

Just dropping in to say hi to everyone, hope all is well on the homefronts! Hope the hot weather will be over soon, have lost several hens due to heat over the summer. still pluggin along though. Have a blessed day all!!! Lynn

It has been a very rough summer for all, sorry to hear of your losses too. I truly hope next year is better, it seems we went from an extended cold period and bad winter skipped spring altogether and just jumped into a blistering summer. I hope we at least have some transition into winter otherwise we have similar losses from a cold snap as we did the heat.
