***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes Ksane .They can survive outside during the worst of winter as long as they have a dry and draft fre place. Doesn't have to be airtight but at least closed on three sides, the open side being east. Give corn chops during the coldest of times and it will keep them warm. Normally they won't eat the corn any other time if they have a choice of other grains. A good scratch mix great for them, and what grains they don't eat you can feed to the chickens. Don't know how close you are to Michael D. but he usually has a few modenas around, you might be able to get more for a bigger flock!Don't forget to give them some oyster shell for grit purpose and a calcium source. They have a new modena out now that is a (bantam) variety. They are called Germane Modenas and are smaller in size.

Ebay also, no I was afraid they would germinate in our "Indian Summer" and not have enough energy to make it through winter. I plan on winter sowing them though, so they will come up like volunteers. I don't have a hoop house, but I bet that will work.

Yea, I knew about the German Modenas, that's what I thought these were at 1st. I was so used to big ole' chickens that the pigeons seemed so small. I can make them something, I've got it started. They're eating Dove food right now. These 2 can't wrap their toes around things to perch, I assumed because they were raised on wire, but I don't know.
Michael D is where I got these-don't tempt me with getting more lol!!

Hey everyone!

Okay first off I am so jealous about the favorelles, my third favorite birds after cochin and ameraucanas. They are truly the perfect chicken with feathered legs, beards and extra toes. Love them!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Michael, if you find some more give me a call cause I am the market for some myself.

Hopefully we can get her pelvis healed up then they can start addressing the other damage. She has a long road to recover but mom is going to doctor her as much as possible. Hopefully she will be in tow with me at the Newcastle and Blanchard auction. Then you all can meet my egg in the basket.

Better get to bed I have a ton of work to get done tomorrow. Have a good one everybody!

Morning, Okies

DH is away chaperoning a youth something-or-other so I had pancakes for supper. I cooked the extra batter this morning and fed the cakes to the birds. I think I'm back in their good graces.

Doodle - Loved the Amish buggy photos. I bet riding in one would be a blast.

Rebecca - Best wishes for a complete recovery for your DD.

I had a friend in high school who had an accident on the balance beam, broke her hip, and then spent a lot of time healing. She took one year off but was back into gymnastics her senior year. Younger bones knit better.
