Yep,
I will simply say make good friends.. and show vaible interest in the birds.
A bird is worth what a person is willing pay regardless of anything else. There are birds that go well above any $ value in my opinion, and there is a stopping point as well. It is all based on what a person wants and what they willing to do to get it.
Sometimes developing a relationship and being patient is well worth the wait and gifts sometimes ocour as well.
I'll bet'cha I can find another bird somewhere I'm thrilled with for $20 and not have to suck up
I'm not interested in breeding & showing. Mine's a whole different mindset. I'm not in birds to make money, I'm in it for a hobby. I do it because I get attached to them and want to take care of them. There's some birds I'd spend a lot of money to buy (but not $200). But I'm a lot more apt to pull a dirty filty mite-ridden mutt rooster with a broken leg out of the ditch and blow the grocery money on him. Then eat macaroni & cheese for 3 wks. Just different priorities. 'Sides, I want lots of critter company in Heaven when I get there.
I understand, but quite often when you know the folks that have them and talk to them in detail they often one or two extras that are gifted...
It is a good thing your not in it for teh money because that is a race everyone doing this right looses on. Its a hobby and a labor of love, that will seldom pay for it's self much less anything extra.
I do this because I enjoy it, I enjoy teh under-dog varieties the ones that need the help and work put into them. making all they can be is what I enjoy then turing them out for others to see and peak some interest. It is a stress relief and pleasure.
