Meyer is in Ohio (or somewhere near there), there is a hatchery in Oklahoma in one of the "We" towns (weleetka, wewoka, wetumka I don't remember which) but they don't have EE's or Flavorelles, or Ameraucanas (the only bearded breeds I know)

I got my start from several places; Haggerty, Ideal (yes, the hatchery), the most recent addition were from Duane Urch and I'm pretty sure I'm going to order some lovely chicks from Laura Haggerty in the spring before I close the flock (She is Pathfinders here on BYC - easy to find on the Buckeye thread). Also, I just ran into a Gentleman named Roy Autry at the Shawnee show who was selling out of his Buckeyes, I think he said they came from Janet Hatch, I have his card if you're interested.

You better get on Laura's waiting list if you're going to get birds from her. I would like to get his card. I talked to Janet Hatch and am going to get some older pullets from her this spring...she lives in Missouri. Sure would like to see the birds you got from Urch.

Sometime it might be nice together and talk Buckeyes and our breeding programs. Dgibson on here just got a trio from the cross roads show, so there's starting to be more around.

Ksane the EEs are pretty common ,you can proably find some nice ones at about any auction. Don't know how close you are to Michael D. but I bet he could come up with some nice ones. Also OkCarla proably has more than a few!

NaNa NaNa NaNa , that old bantam bug really put a nasty bite on you didn't he!lol I was going to tell you about Boggy Bottoms variety of D"anvers but couldn't remember their name!( It was the horrible birthday I guess!) They sure have some neat colors of them. Glad you were able to connect with them.

Enjoyed all the show pictures! Thanks guys! There sure were some nice birds there it appears. Sounds like several people got some good starts of future flocks.

Jethro needs a home! 1 year old Bloodhound male. Someone dumped him at my house about two weeks ago. I have taken him to the vet as he has a lump on the side of his head. The vet said it looks like he got kicked by a horse or cow or was hit with something but that it will go away in time. if ayone is interested let me know.

Allbreeds - that's so sad about the bloodhound. First he gets injured, then someone dumps him. Hope he finds a good home soon.

Today, after seven days of being locked in their coops/pens, with the hope of helping my chickens learn that their coops are a good place to go in the evening, I'm sorry to report that they have decided otherwise. This evening, like before, some are sleeping on the chimney ledge and the others are sleeping on top of the fence. Stubborn birds. I suppose they're where they want to be despite what might be best for them.

have you tried feeding treats only in the coops in the evening when they come in?? maybe that would work? and leave a light on, they might be coaxed in by the light and treats

I think those that Nana just got are bearded (are they, Nana?) Michael D has EE's all the time, that's where I got my 1st 2. I can't believe I wasn't going to keep them at 1st! Because of diseases I've decided to steer clear from auction birds unless they've been raised just at the seller's place. I get too attached to babies, I just can't do that again. If I could find some older than 6 or 8 months that'd be perfect.

For folks worrying about LF in cold weather, here's a link to a short piece by a chicken expert. Chickens can tolerate cold weather, but they need to be protected from wind and wet bedding.

Someone was asking about local hatcheries??? I've only got experience with Country Hatchery. Dr. Dennis Smith and his sons own and run the hatchery. Here's a link to the chicken breeds and prices for 2012:

The have EEs, Buff Orps, Barred Rocks, Produciton Reds, Black Aussies, Buff and Black Minorcas, and they also have Barnevelders (but the Barnevelders are not all true double laced... some are partridge laced.) I've raised their fry pan special (25 male chicks for about eighteen bucks) and had some really good meals. They also have jumbo cornish, but I haven't raised those. I met Dennis, a really nice and incredibly knowledgable guy, so you can expect to be treated well when you pick up your birds at the hatchery (they ship, too... but the drive was cheaper than the postage and easier on the birds). Dennis double checked my order and carried my day-old chicks to my truck for me. Great customer service.
