thoose barred roos look like those bred for the feathers for fly tieing. I've never seen the whole body covered in those long narrow feathers before except on the ones bred for fly feathers. They are beautiful birds. Hope those pens are well covered tonight!lol

She's pretty! Nice shiny feathers. What other kinds of birds do you have?

I just have more chickens.

The smart aleck in me wanted to just post that in reply...but then I realized I am tired and my SOH might be off-kilter...;-)

No other kinds of birds unless you count all the dang finches I am feeding. I had no idea they could just fly right through 1" chicken wire...I have 3 LF the black star you saw and a RIR and an EE..then I have 7 various banties with babies coming and a new coop thing happening.

(I'm punchy cause I powered through boring housework so long weekend can be coop work all weekend)
(new run arrangement has anti-finch features)

I have not named them except for one we call Liza Minnelli. She was Liza with a Z the moment we saw her. Her feathers are not so nice... this is from a couple of months ago, I started shoving BOSS at everyone as soon as I figured out what that meant and why ya'll were talking about it so much...the big black hen does have the best feathers out of everyone so far but she is also the most mature...I am interested to see what everyone looks like fully grown and feathered...

I like the new smilies.
Hard to think of Spring right now with it snowing outside.

Did you order a package of bees or did you find someone with Nucs of bees to sell?

I ordered a package with a queen. I just couldn't make heads or tails of some of the people selling nucs & then my mentor said a package was the best route. I think I will be in the city next month & plan to buy some stuff at the place on Bryant.

Morning! DH made it home safely last night. There were a few times when he was buffeted hard and caught some air in his little car, but he managed to keep it between the ditches. Class went well; we've managed roll reversals: he's working with high school kids and I'm working with turkeys.... just kidding. We don't keep turkeys.

Our outside thermometer reads 26 degrees Fahrenheit. It's still black as pitch out there. I'm cooking a pot of rice and a pot of oatmeal. I'm going to give the birds some hot food this morning. We had a light dusting, but from what I can see with the flashlight, it looks more like icy patches than snow. DH took the Dodge to work today. He's not interested in a repeat of yesterday's driving adventure.

two questions - is there a way to select "time of the post" in the display rather than "xyz minutes ago" in my view of the site?

where was the place to jump to posts made since I was last online - so I don't feel a need to make a post before signing off, just to "mark my spot" about where I finished reading? I do really like the new smilies

Morning all. Still calling for snow this afternoon. Its still warm outside so I don't know. But I got a Murray McMurray catalog nd a burgess seed catalog yesterday so I'm ready to stay in wish!lol I know a lot of people frown on hatchery birds but they were the first fancy poultry I ever had so I am still fond of ordering chicks in the mail. Hope all the postal problems doesn't elimate that enjoyable side of poultry raising. And everyone needs a Murray catalog just so you can see what grown birds and babys of the same breeds look like.

One more day till lock down on my eggs. I'm going to take NN's advise and just turn off the turner and leave them upright. And just two more days till AUCTION time! Don't really need anything but can't wait to go and see whats available!lol

PoCo how come you get out so early-before daylight- to care for your birds? I thought you were retired or worked from home.
