After work today, DH boards a bus for Washington, D.C. He's one of the chaperons for the youth from our church attending the March for Life. I've watched my husband pack many times before, but this was the first time he put aside a pair of dress socks so that he could take another box of Tiger Milk bars. I hope he packed his ear plugs so that he can read on the bus. I think the lead chaperon is planning to disable the WiFi on the bus to keep kids off their phones.

I think I would leave the wi-fi alone. Nothing worse than a bunch of todays spoiled kids who can't use their electronics and don't know how to interact together in person!lol Talk about a grumpy bunch!

On another note - Do some hens have spurs? Not something I've noticed before but two of what I think are cuckoo marans have what look like spurs on their legs above (and one to the side) of the back toe. None of the other hens have this.

Yes hens have spus. Sometimes just one. I have a few older hens that have long spurs.

I was at Atwoods in Clinton some time back and bought some feed. Got it home and opened the first bag to dump in the barrel. As I poured I noticed some coming out as chunks (it was the all flock pellets) so I stopped pouring and examined the chunks to find that the feed had gotten wet at some point and had lots of mold in these chunks. I opened the other bag and saw the same thing. I disposed of both bags and started looking for other places to buy feed. Since then I have gone thru a few other places until I got to where I am now with my feed. Point I am trying to get across is do not feed moldy feed to your flock. It is a shortcut to disaster. Moldy feed can cause Aspergillosis, and other problems. Some of the things to look for, gasping, and accelerated breathing may be present. increased thirst, and diarrhea in the later stages. It seems to effect confined chickens much more than free range. I used Atwoods feed as my example, but moldy feed can come from anywhere or even occur in your feed barrels if moisture is allowed to make contact. As I high as feed is I know it is tempting to just take out the chunks and feed the remaining. You might get by with this forever, but as for me, I'm not going to chance it in my flock.

Hello Everyone!

My gray saddleback Sebastopol is laying eggs already...darned weather...but I don't want goslings at the moment. I have checked fertility and the eggs are definitely fertile. I have a very good deal to offer someone that is really close to my area. I need about 5 or 6 LF Cochin hens, or LF Orp hens to use as broodies for hatching Call duck eggs. I will trade Sebbie eggs for the hens. This is a deal because grown Sebs bring up to $60 a piece, especially the colored ones, and I've gotten as much as $20 a piece for the eggs . My geese are directly from Holderreads: gray saddleback goose with white gander. I am not picky about the color of the hens, but they do need to be healthy, broody type, easy going hens.
Let me know what you have and we'll see what we can work out. Again, you need to be pretty close to the Inola, Claremore, Tulsa area.
