One guy I'll never forget wore socks on his hands so having an inquiring mind I asked "Why do you wear socks on your hands?" Honest to God this was his answer ..................... "It is to remind me not to chew off my fingers ANYMORE." After which he showed me all 8 fingers had been chewed off to the second knuckle, and both thumbs to the first knuckle. So appearently socks are a better deterent then pain, squirting blood, crunching bone????
On the bright side he never has to worry about getting dirt under his nails...

Everyone talking about lice and mites on the birds got me worried a bit cause I haven't checked mine for anything like that in so long so I grabbed a couple out of each area and haven't seen any sign of infestation, I have never used anything other than DE I put it in the bottoms of nest boxes and the floor of the coops and throw a quarter cup or so in the holes they make for dust bathing and every once in a while I sprinkle some in the feed barrel, I also drink a spoon of it in a glass of water daily when I think about it it seems to help my knees not hurt all the time and is supposed to be good for skin and hair among a whole list of other health benefits, tastes a little like dirt but not too unpleasant, and if nothing else it does seem to be working for the chickens since (knock on wood) I've never had a parasite problem on them that I know of.
I'm really enjoying the roaches myself LOL I was going to say looks like a female but it gets a lot easier to tell later the males look more like a giant version of the household kind with the wings.
Speaking of which, Did you see that the Bronx zoo is running a Valentines day promotion you can have a roach named after your sweetie for $10. LOL It is supporting a good cause but I'm thinking the target audience is somewhat limited.
