***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Trixie - Will you stick the bottles into the ground, narrow end down? Or will you need to fill them with dirt to make them stay upright sitting on the big end? Post a picture when you've got one finished. I'm intrigued.

Have a great Friday, everyone. Hope to visit with some of you tonight at the Coweta sale.

I plan on putting them neck down. Added bonus I can fill them with water and use them as a slow watering if i want to. Not very big but still ok, I am not relying on them anyway, I am making a drip system out of an old water hose that i have capped and poked (more) holes in. Interesting idea on filling them with dirt and standing them upright.. that may be better in terms of possible breakage... We will have to see. :) Have a great weekend!

Being a newbie to all this I have an opinion on this. If I buy a bird from someone I am not expecting show quality, because I don't know what to look for anyway. If I were looking for show quality then I would find somebody I am pretty sure I can trust to help me pick it out. If I pay a little bit more for a bird it will be because I personally think it will be worth it. The only time I think it would make me seriously upset would be if a child were trying to get into showing and got taken advantage of. I understand why it makes you angry. There are mostly good honest people in this chicken business and jerks make it difficult for everybody. It's just like anything else. Do your homework. You are a good, honest person, and that's why it makes you upset.

oh boy, another genious posting "show quality" chickens going to the auction in coweta tomorrow.

So pretty!

hi everyone, wanted to thank everyone for your prayers and concerns on our daughter, they had landed in Pittsburgh, safe and sound and some miracles on the way- had a flat tire, couldn't afford a new one, so when they checked at a hotel, the clerk pointed them to someone who couldn't help but said to check with another guy and that guy gave them 2 tires!

They have now met up with some church friends and will be house sitting for a couple months while getting settled...

meanwhile, here is a pic of one of the ee's from coral and her baby

Seedling labels-- I bought a box of 1000 @ American plant products -- thought it would last a couple yrs. I have already Burned through half the box this yr! For DIY labels that last you can cut up an old mini blind. The blinds are not as thick as the "real" thing but it is the same material. Write on them with a fine tip sharpie. Good luck getting more seeds. I was lookin for a few varieties from Walmart & atwoods (just minor stud I forgot to order) and the selection was poor & some stuff was sold out. Took me 3 stores before I was able to get Armenian cucumbers & long eggplants! I have never grown eggplants myself-- it isn't something my family loves - but since they thrived in the heat & drought my family will be experimenting with lots of eggplant!

Off to the coop. Birds eat much more when the bugs are all hiding. I am using 250 lbs feed a wk!

Oh just a note on what I learned @ the ext office yesterday. Not surprising, but They have been testing the eggs from the bugs that were laid in the fall. Normally they get 15-20% good eggs. This season they are around 90% -- since the winter was so mild the eggs didn't get damaged by weather. Start insect control measures now!

Yes markers for seeds & for the garden. I like the bottle idea but not something I can use. I had thought of plastic but of course I didn't have anything on hand last night. Kids don't get popsickles anymore (they make their own).......I will be looking around here at work today to find something to work or will go to the store tomorrow.

NanaKat enjoy your visit with your family & have a safe trip!!!

Sooner I couldnt find my markers either so I used toothpicks, tape, and paper...lol

Last yr DD hatched a batch of chicks for a friend & named them all-- we kept them a few wks before my friend picked them up. DD wanted to make sure everyone knew there names so she used strips of paper to write their names on & wrapped their names on their legs scotch tape. The names only stayed for a few hours until the chicks pecked them off.

LOL, that is funny with the chicks names!

I must wrtie too big for toothpicks & paper! Of course I am trying some new stuff & want the full name on them so I can see how well they do & don't get mixed up.
