***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Fairwind, I don't have a clue. This is only the 2nd time I've tried and I only have a little foam incubator. My daughter tried with it once last year and all of the 4 eggs she set were moving and developing the whole time but only 1 hatched. I'm going to be sad if these guys here don't hatch after watching them playing jump rope in their shells just now. I don't have anything to monitor humidity, my 1st hatch was dry all the way through until lockdown. With these eggs I've got here I've got water in there in the bottom. Do you monitor your humidity?

thanks. It was windy a few days down here.. I seen their feathers move in the wind... but I just bet it would be stronger for them to handle in Oklahoma.

My hens actually seem to enjoy being outside in the wind. They race around flapping their wings in the gusts. It is quite amuzeing to watch.

Coming out from lurker status (ya'll are universally informative and funny) to show you the coop we have been working on...

We are taking a break for a minute (3 weeks at least

) while this weather blows through before finishing up the final details like sewing all the seams and putting in some more boards! and trimming up the wire and painting more! and moving the swing set and adding door pulls and etc. etc. Plus I cannot take the constant jamming of my air stapler gun...arrgh...someone besides me is going to have to fix it that thing this time! Also I am dreading the seam sewing, any tips/tricks? I am going to trellis the grapevine and wisteria you see behind there all crammed in up and over the end of the coop....cannot tell you the battles it took to keep certain non-gardening people (DH) from "trimming" those up

Any ideas what could cause the poor hatching?

That is a long list.. That starts with the breeder birds condition, feed quality and health. the breeder birds pen condition, how frequently the eggs are collected, if teh eggs are cleaned, if teh eggs are sterilized, if teh incubator is sterile, Inc. temp, inc. humidity. hatching temps and humidity.

I have used the dry method for the incubator, then lots of humidity during lockdown in the hatcher? I know 9 of the eggs were well developed? So disappointing.....I don't know about the feed/condition of the parents since these were ordered eggs?
