***OKIES in the BYC III ***

cowboy, it is pretty common, they are called silent heart attacks, and as someone mentioned they are more common in women. It is certainly a wake up call, but like others have mentioned it can be managed and many people live very long after their first. My Gpa had a massive (not silent at all) first one in 1978 and had multiple smaller including silent throughout the next almost 30 years of his life. The key is to identify your risks and manage those as best you can (lifestyle choices, food, exersice etc), find a good cardiologist who you can communicate well with and trust, take the meds as prescribed (not hit and miss b/c you don't think you need them) and don't stress about the rest. About the triglicerides, I have a friend who is a normal weighted, very active (horse trainer), female around 50 years old, she had her cholesterol checked on a fluke just to get her husband to do it. Within an hour of her Dr. getting her test results back she was in the ICU her cholesterol levels were well over 1000 and triglycerides over 10,000. She tried prescribed cholesterol lowering meds, diet (she did go vegan) and alternative diet supplements, for her it takes all three approaches to keep it in check. Even being overweight for your numbers to be so high it is most likely a combo of what you eat, and how your body uses it, likely gentetically your body doesn't process fat and carbs the way it should. Be proactive w/ your health, research the problems, look at the different solutions pick what will work for you and stick w/ it, if it doesn't work try different solutions until you find what does work for you. Dr. Higgins who was my Gma's cardiologist recommended the South Beach Diet to all his pts.

elwood, have you tried meletonin? You can get it inexpensively at any discount store w/ a vitimin section. It is the natural sleep "chemical" your own body makes, doesn't make you groggy in the morning and if your insomnia is related to low levels of your own bodies meletonin it might help. The reccomended dose is one pill, but I take 2, and my husband takes 4 it works very well for both of us.

Thanks

I thought it was the third weekend and I had missed it! Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to make it.

Have you heard from Grady since they left?
Haven't seen any updates from Grady, use to get emails-- I am sure they are busy getting settled in. Been looking into getting a wireless EBT card reader for market crazy expensive ....... over a grand! Texas & Michigan both are able to take payments with their phones, Oklahoma needs to step it up!

Monty - how on earth do you remember so well :) Yes I am one in the same! I remember you too! Glad to see at least one name I recognize!

Oakie - Buff Orps and I sorta maybe ordered some ducks.... I don't even know what kind they ordered, i just told them I was interested in splitting a duck order if anyone was interested. They ordered some kind of waterfowl and told me they'd be there next week. I wasn't expecting to get my order till mid to late March so I've got to search for my heat lamps, feeders and waterers this weekend!

That pic of the dog w/ the chickens is awesome!

Well I gave in and got two bantams from Atwoods. They are so tiny and cute. Of course I have no idea what breed they are. They are bantams and they are chicks. Since chicks don't count and bantams are only half a chicken and I have tow of them does that mean I don't have to count one of the bigger chickens? Minus one chicken?

Yes, RetiredArmyWife-you got it! And since you picked up so fast on the chicken math thing go ahead and subtract 2 for that :)
Jim, my turkey boy says he's going to make you run home to mama!

I think I'm way better at chicken math then I ever was at any other math when I was in school. That is one good looking turkey.

My LF Cochin boys are so sweet to their girls! They never had girls before. My dark gray/black boy was so nice that I went ahead and put him in with my sacred Cochin girls. I had tried a couple of my Silkie boys with the Silkie girls awhile back and they acted like little jerks going after the girls. I just figured my teen-aged Cochin boys would be the same way but they weren't, I was so happy to see that. Is that because the Silkies are bantams? Maybe LF birds are gentler and more laid back like big breed dogs. All 3 of my Cochins boys are perfect gentlemen, all they want to do is feed the girls. I haven't even seen them breed them, they must be polite enough to wait until I leave.
Rebecca, those 2 EE's that had been in with the dark Cochin boy? Since I put him in with my Cochin girls I put them in with his brother the Splash. You can still have all the eggs you want.
MJ, here's a closer picture of Peaches' new boyfriend. All their combs used to be just perfect and now the 2 Splash's combs & waddles look terrible since they got into that fight. I guess they just all of a sudden one day decided 3 was a crowd. I took one out and then they decided 2 was a crowd also :-/
