***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Welcome to all the new folks.

POOPS will have lots of items in the raffle for the children...a great family event!
If anyone has things to add to the raffle, please PM me so I can keep track. Remeber the proceeds from the raffle will help fund our future POOPS gatherings.

I'm going to add a dozen large fowl Columbian Wyandotte eggs to the raffle list. We have been getting a good hatch percentage of these birds that are from Carl's breeders.
Coming to POOPS for the first time this year!
How much are the raffle tickets?

During spring break I will go through some stuff with my girls & come up with some raffle items. Maybe oldest DD can do some feather earrings. We are out of peacock feathers (I think) but the earrings look nice with guinea feathers too. We will also play around with cutting some stuff out of vinyl & try to do some tiles or something, i have been searching for good chicken svg images that i can cut with my machine. My girls LOVE being crafty. any excuse to make something gets them excited!

I'm out for the evening.. 3 am was early all week.. and I'm beat. see yall tomorrow as I take breaks frequently... have good evening

Evenin' peeps! How's everyone doing? We're still perking along here in NE OK. Our first 5 bantam cross chicks are 9 weeks old now and growing like weeds. I can't tell for sure if they're pullets or cockerels. Will take pics tomorrow and post for your opinions. Had a new baby hatch a few days ago and have 9 more in the incubator with 3 duck eggs. Getting 3 or 4 dozen guinea eggs next week to add to the mix. We also just got a pygmy goat so I'd definitely say our little farm is growing.

You need some NN's good hardy, good layers and they are not chickens either acording to chicken math since chickens are covered in feathers and NN's are not..

Holy Hark!!! I just about fell out of my chair when I read this.

Well sold some of our 5 week old chicks tonight and our two red star roosters. Made a little money to give Carl next week to set eggs

Since I think with chicken math if the eggs aren't at your house they don't count. Well at least that sounds right, yeah that's what I am going with they don't count if the eggs aren't at your house, lol.

Been awhile since I'd been on..thought I'd stop in and say,"hi". We've been doing pretty good here, hatching more chicks than we know what to do with, have the incubators full, and sending eggs out all over the place. Had some BYCers stop by today had a great conversation...always love to talk birds with friends!

See where there's a POOPS coming up...think that's GREAT! Look forward to seeing a lot of old hats and meeting new people that need a good dose of bird enabling, lol.

Peaches, tell Doc hey for me and I'll be thinking of him...He'll enjoy Kandahar (KAF), they got a boardwalk that has all the goodies there. Tarin Kowt, not so much. You need anything call.

Ya'al have a great night!

Bill

I had just moved them from the hatcher to the brooder. Actually I only moved the pullets to the brooder and left the cockrels in the hatcher. Not that it made a difference they ALL died. As far as the temps in the incubators my last check was around 10pm last night and all was well. So IF the power went out right after that the GQF's lose temperature faster than the Humidaire. They probably were in the 60's for 4 hours, maybe five. The humidaire will usually hold temp a while so maybe 2 hours on that one, those eggs just went in yesterday. The GQF's were all within a week or two of hatching. everything is back up and running and at the correct temp but who knows..... I will candle tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your eggs and chicks.

I believe you can buy an alarm that will go off if the temp get down to a certain temp. Please someone correct me if I am wrong on this.
One thing to consider is buy or making a foam or styrofoam cover for your incubators and keep your incubators wrapped for GP reasons. It will probably cut the energy cost to have them wrapped up all the time. Also keep old comforters and blankets around to throw over them as well.

Have you had a formal lesson in "Chicken" Math?

Do we have enough new folks to hold a new Chciken Math 101 class?

Yes a lesson in chicken math is always a good thing, even for us who have been around a while. Because as it stands I am up to 14 chickens, since that is how many eggs I found today. Of course that is up from two days ago when I only had 9 (eggs that is)

Haha. Well I am a newbie I only have 6 baby pullets, so far....

So you still do not have any chickens. You NEED to come to the auction tomorrow and get yourself some chickens.

I just saying!!!

It's not my rules.. its chicken math.. and the goal there is to have very few so that you always need more.. I don't make the rules.. I just like them..

You can not argue math. It is a force of nature. As is owning and the fevered acquistion of chickens.

For the love a' God you people can talk a lot! I'm a week behind on reading so I hope everyone is doing good. I'll get caught up.
I've been busily working out where to put 'The Boys' around here, it's ridiculous how much time and money I'll have to spend to house all the males.
I'm worried about them not being happy without girls in with them but we'll see how they do.
My Bantam Fav babies are awesome. The wing feathers are coming in tan on all of them (which means female) but that can't be possible that they're all girls so I'll wait longer to see. Only a total of 7 out of the 15 eggs hatched and one of those died so I only have 6. Man, people aren't kidding when they say talk about hard hard these little ones are to find and hatch. Especially since most all eggs have to to be shipped. Their fat little cheeks and round bodies are precious though.
Channing my Serama tips his beak at everyone and says hi!

Glad your back! Hope your sister and husband in law get to feeling better. Boo squawked "hi" to Channing.

I have a bunch of "stuff" for the children's raffle. Going to clear out and get rid of a lot of clutter.... I mean raffle items, around my place.

I am not sure what the decision is going to be on the raffles this year. We have done different things over the years. As we get closer to POOPS, and we have a better idea of what is going to be donated, an announcement will be made.

Holy Hark!!! I just about fell out of my chair when I read this.

Holy Cow Les, you do not have hardly any chickens!!! You have a bunch of those naked birds and according to chicken math they don't count. Better go to the auction and get some "real" chickens. Bwahahahaha!!!!!
