***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Coral I love that you got the birds to pose. I saw a thread once on taking studio style pics of chicks. It involved a cardboard box with a window opening. Think they painted the box black or used black fabric. Can't rememeber but it was good info.

Anybody Groupon?
One of todays deal is a guided fishing trip out of Norman. I bought one for Fathers Day. The girls love to fish, but DH spends all the time fixing rods, baiting hooks, removing fish, etc. I think that has caused him to not enjoy fishing with our girls. Maybe on a guided fishing trip he wouldn't have to work so hard. I could be completly wrong though! Either way my girls will love it & hopefully my freezer will manage to see some fish.

Not me, i've never done lemon, but a lot of chocolate and even more coconut

I like all three!
Have you ever made Butterscotch? I have my Great Grandmother's recipe. It is not a pudding recipe it's a custard like Lemon and is heavenly. It sometimes won't set up for me though.

I just saw a news story of a 28 lb turkey flying into the windshield of a school bus, the glass cut the driver some but he is ok. They didn't say how the turkey came out though.

Does anybody have any frizzle bantams they can bring to POOPS?

I may be bringing a black frizzle bantam, if I begin to think it's a cockeral. It'll be not quite three months old.

Okay, so I have never had this happen before so I am gonna ask someone who might have had it happen. It appears that the power went out last night. i lost all my babies that had just been moved to the brooders, pullets and cockerels, over 200. My question is, the temperature reading in each of the incubators was around 62. how long can they withstand that low of a temperature before they die in the shell?

Sorry you lost all those chicks. How awful

I was at Johnny's in Okmulgee last weekend and bought an Arkansas Black Apple tree. Have never heard of those before. Every fruit tree I have ever bought from him have always done excellent with huge growth in the first year usually bearing a small amount of fruit the second year, depending on the type of fruit tree.

ooo..... I just like the name of it :) I'm looking for apple trees this year, may have to look into it more. How much does he sell his trees for?

Haha. Well I am a newbie I only have 6 baby pullets, so far....

I second.... or third... you should go to blanchard tonight! You need chickens!

Well I think I might want to come to POOPS. Be nice to get out of the house.

You'll love it!

The calf is doing great, gaining weight, a week ago friday you had to shove a bottle down him, this week you have to shove him off of you to keep from getting nursed yourself ! DH does not find that too funny when the calf follows him around looking for a bottle, I on the other hand laugh so hard I almost wet my pants.

Thanks for all three visuals there

Those babies are so ugly they are cute with their little naked neck.

No you're right to begin with

Don't think I can ever get on board with NNs

My 5 year old heard the roosters in the shed this morning :) She is so excited, I told her we could go out and visit with them when it warms up a bit today. Checked on them last night and they have gone up to roost in the rafters like I was hoping they would. Not as worried about them getting attacked at night since they are so high up. (My shed is actually a really old small barn)

Question: For any of you feeding roosters by themselves, what do you give them? They're in there with Guineas right now so they're only getting game feed. Will that get them by until I feel comfortable that they all know where home is. If that's not good enough then what should I be sticking out there for them?

When DH hit a turkey on the highway, it didn't make it & you would be surprised at the amount of damage to the truck. Glad everyone was okay!

Good morning Okie's. Just a quick checkin before I go to work. Looks like a wonderful day & for once we are home all weekend so I plan to get alot done!

Yep, I can relate to that...good news.

Carl, I am the authority in Blanchard nowadays, should be reading this.

Actually , Blanchard allows chickens with no limitations. They finally gave me a copy of the ordinances so now I don't have to worry about telling someone they can't have roosters or chickens in general.Yesterday just before I got off work I saw an elderly couple who have recently acquired chickens let them out to range, I haven't seen chickens there before so I was looking as a went by in the animal control truck. On my way home 10 minutes later they were in the house and all the chickens in the coop. I hope I didn't scare them looking.

You may have to stop in and compliment them on their flock....just so they know it's okay.

perfect deal - Rebecca wants roos though and she gets dibs.

Don't know how many of the Ohio hatch of cochins are roos yet. 3 hatched Jan 27 and 8 hatched Feb 22.
These are blue and splash. I want a couple of pullets but already have nice roos...so there will be roos and a few pullets available depending on the ratio.
Will have a few roos from the Jan 27 hatch that will be Cochin/Aussie and Cochin/CW crosses. These are big chicks! Should go into freezer camp nicely...the pullets will make lovely hens.
