I may be bringing a black frizzle bantam, if I begin to think it's a cockeral. It'll be not quite three months old.
Sorry you lost all those chicks. How awful![]()

My 5 year old heard the roosters in the shed this morningShe is so excited, I told her we could go out and visit with them when it warms up a bit today. Checked on them last night and they have gone up to roost in the rafters like I was hoping they would. Not as worried about them getting attacked at night since they are so high up. (My shed is actually a really old small barn)
Question: For any of you feeding roosters by themselves, what do you give them? They're in there with Guineas right now so they're only getting game feed. Will that get them by until I feel comfortable that they all know where home is. If that's not good enough then what should I be sticking out there for them?
Been awhile since I'd been on..thought I'd stop in and say,"hi". We've been doing pretty good here, hatching more chicks than we know what to do with, have the incubators full, and sending eggs out all over the place. Had some BYCers stop by today had a great conversation...always love to talk birds with friends!
See where there's a POOPS coming up...think that's GREAT! Look forward to seeing a lot of old hats and meeting new people that need a good dose of bird enabling, lol.
Peaches, tell Doc hey for me and I'll be thinking of him...He'll enjoy Kandahar (KAF), they got a boardwalk that has all the goodies there. Tarin Kowt, not so much. You need anything call.
Ya'al have a great night!
Bill
I really could use the blue, since Lucius passed away but know your girl Peaches really needs a man, too.I only want a LF Cochin roo after Rebecca and Okracefan get all the LF Cochins they need.
I will fight someone for some Bantam Americaunas though.
You should video tape that and put it on Youtube. That would be funnny!!!The calf is doing great, gaining weight, a week ago friday you had to shove a bottle down him, this week you have to shove him off of you to keep from getting nursed yourself ! DH does not find that too funny when the calf follows him around looking for a bottle, I on the other hand laugh so hard I almost wet my pants.
Oh sure they will like it, who else of their friends has a pet bull to meet them at the bus everyday. Maybe good as a deterrent to those teenage boys. Ferdinand would be would be a great name.Good morning all! Girls both had friends over last night and they woke about an hour ago.....or maybe didn't go to sleep at all. I am not going to ask. I warned DD she w needed rest since we would be @ the chicken auction late.
Your DH will start to enjoy his new four legged companion. We love our bottle goats & they think they are dogs. They scream for you to pet them. When the girls bus arrives they run half way down the driveway just like bailiff (our dog). Not sure if the kids would take well to a cow that tried to meet them @ the bus.
Not me, i've never done lemon, but a lot of chocolate and even more coconut
You can have the roos, i want hens.
I just saw a news story of a 28 lb turkey flying into the windshield of a school bus, the glass cut the driver some but he is ok. They didn't say how the turkey came out though.
Rebecca, I'm not able to PM from here since they changed the format, so I sent you an e-mail about the chickens I can bring to POOPS. Hope you got it.
Yeah wait til you get the ones who won't leave. Had that a couple of times.Nothing like opening the front door to let the fresh air in and your rooster comes strolling in for a visit! I just love life on the farm!
Ok I have decided to find my Serama a new home. As much as I enjoy him, when I put the house on the market it will not show well with a chicken in the house. I would think it would bring up the value. Not everybody thinks like me though. I am keeping the outdoor chickens no matter what the realtor says though. They will be moving with me. So if anybody wants a sweet Serama with a gimpy foot let me know. I can bring him to POOPS.
Peaches you know we are all here for you if you need anything. Tell Doc hi and be safe. K?Thanks Bill! I think he pretty much knows Kandahar since he was there quite a bit last year. He will be a traveling person while there. He will be working with the Surveilence systems that look like hot air balloons over there. But then again, I dont know where all he will be and he wont until he reports over there. If I need anything, I will sure let you know. Right now thoughts and prayers are a good thing.
Well, we did it. Took the leap. I just ordered 125 CX meat birds from Mt Healthy hatchery. They will be shipped on 3/24. We will brood them for two or three weeks, then put them out on pasture in a Salatin style broiler pen.
The plan is to take orders at the farmers market beginning in April and have folks pick up their birds on-farm in May. Once I have enough preorders, we will purchase a tub style plucker and some cones to do this right. That's the plan, anyway. If it works out, we will double that in the fall. I've been advised by local meat bird experts not to try them in the heat of the summer.
The adventure begins!
