***OKIES in the BYC III ***

aggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

wemt to the dr. today, he decided i only need shots in my knee. he gives me cortisone, ouch!, said it might take 3-4 days for the shot to work. wellllllllll he might have been wrong! knee hurts about 20 times as bad as it did, he asked if it ever "popped" or "locked up", and it hasnt until after the shot!

i sure hope this isnt the beginning of something bad.

Oh man. I had a cortisone shot in my wrist in Iraq. Ouch is right! Sorry you are hurting so much. Hope it get's to feeling better quick!

probably a first or " pullet " egg.

Got them open. Tried the knife and no bueno. But my 11yo opened them like it was nothing and she was just a gentle as ever. I have over 62 eggs. Man. The lady in VA that I got my blue and black Silkies from gave me an extra dozen!!! So happy. I have about 4 tiny tiny eggs. They are marked and ready for the incubator tomorrow.
My smallest egg. I've never seen such a small egg.

Been setting my eggs on Wendsdays so they don't hatch when everything else is going on. I hope y'all are getting as good a hatches as I've been. Last week and this week have been a good 90% (although I did have to help a few) Funny thing is, most of them always hatch on Tuesday, a day early.

Got a call this morning and sold 22 already, and it's still a bit crowded. Gonna have to divide them up this evening. Look closely and you'll see about a third are NNs. Got a few frizzles in there too.

Don't cha just gotta love em?

Yep, I see those little NNs. All so cute!

Hi Muesky; Good to know there are other chicken lovers close at hand. We are at 84th and Alameda St. Love it where we live and will NEVER move back into town.
Hi Gigiintheforest!
I live south of hwy 9 off 180th but go by your way almost on a daily basis. When I come through Norman I usually take Alameda to 84th and then hwy 9.
I totally hear you about NEVER being able to live in town. I look at all those houses so close together and it makes me feel bad for those living in town.

Here is the current list of attendees for POOPS.
I will try and catch people as they post on the thread,
but if you don't see your name on the list then please
send me a private message.
Please let me know how many will be in your group.
Thanks Monty

Whoot, Whoot! 68 already!!!

Welcome! There are a bunch of us out this way. You should come to POOPS - people of Oklahoma Poultry Swap: May 5th at Choctaw Park.

I agree!!!

what hatchery? i have one similar i am trying to figure out- either new hamp or red sex link for mine..

That is a cute baby!

I definately have some chickens that are "special". They have had access to all 8 gardens around their coop until this week or so, I have been blocking off gardens as I start to plant some. 7 of the gardens have been basically barren of vegetation, but one is lush and green w/ fall greens and roots that didn't do well but still have lots of leaves and the turnips all blooming bright yellow everywhere anyway basically a chickens dream, but I am having to lock off the barren gardens to force them into the green lush one.

The east garden of each coop I've designated as the summer run, it will be the most shaded and I've got plans for adding to the natural shade. I have been working on the prep work to those two gardens, and blocking the majority of the gardens off from the chickens all day.

We are changing where the chickens come and go so we can have an automatic coop door, this meant moving part of a fence and a T post, I am here to tell you when you plant a T post make sure you aren't going to want to move it!!!!!! Digging through sand stone in very tight quarters, it took nearly 1.5 hrs just to move that one post.
I have sandy soil and almost destroyed my shoulder and back one day trying to remove a t-post. I think they expand when they get below ground. Just saying!

You guys are killing me with the chick and egg picks. I want to buy chicks and eggs but I have refrained so far. You all are not helping my resolve. Of course I have two of the cuties cochin babies in my brooder right now that will steal your heart. Oh and they are for sale.
Just so you all know I have 8 black LF cochin eggs under a broodie right now that will start hatching in a couple of weeks. I maybe willing to part with a few chicks. :D
So who's your enabler now. Yea!!! :)

Ugh, I'm sitting on my hands right now, the eggs have been resting for 10 hours and I really want to set them tonight..... I can see my dreams already - can't sleep need to fill the bator.

I'm going to be off line for a week, going to visit my parents in Michigan. Joe will be taking care of my chickens (with Jack's help).

I've got 3 dozen eggs in my incubator. It is a home-made cabinet type. Joe won't have to do a thing but turn the eggs twice a day by a lever coming out of the top. I didn't put any "important" egg in it. I'll leave that up to Carl or Jack till I know this incubator works well.
If it does work it could be a very dangerous thing. With the3-hole brooder I got at Newcastle I could brood about 100 chicks!

Talked to Mom earlier and it was 78* today. Monday is supposed to be 80* - definately above normal temps. I don't mind, I'm somewhat used to warmer weather after almost 8 years i n OK.
