You want to trade the black chicks for different colored chicks, you mean?
Imma Okie, that cockerel is beautiful. I'm one of those people who can't turn loose of a bird I raised so I've got too many boys as it is, my husband is worse than me come to find out. But yours sure is pretty. You could always build him a bachelor pen and give him a couple girls, that's why I'm in the process of doing. I don't like to eat enough to butcher my little buddies, no one at my house is going to starve to death if they don't eat chicken
We got the 4x4's set finally for the pen for the 3 turkeys in the back yard. It's going to be 15x20. It doesn't look too small when you're standing in it, I hope there's enough room. I wish I could let them free range since they're such big birds. But I just know they'd fly right into the front yard where all my dogs are. They can easily get over the dog's 5' fence even with clipped wings. So they'll have a covered pen and I won't have to clip their pretty wings. Got the posts set for 2 other 10x10 pens, too. Even if none of my eggs hatch at Carl's I'm going to try again for Ameraucanas and Dark Brahmas, I want those 2 breeds. Out of the 6 Bantam Faverolles as far as I can tell I've got 5 girls and 1 boy-too cool if that's the case.
My Serama, Channing, is going to have a small pen with a park bench and table and umbrella in it so he can be outside and scratch around like a real chicken when I'm outside. I can't bear to leave him out there overnight though, he's so little he'd get carried off by a beetle :-(
Thank you, Ksane! He may just get his own little area. I told myself that I would be able to butcher the roos, but that's not workin' out too well. I did nearly wring one of my hen's neck the other day when I caught her red handed (the better idiom would be egg on her face) eating eggs! I am now on patrol and if I catch any more eggs broken, the hen gets it!
It sounds like a poultry paradise at your place!
