***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I placed my turkey boy (sniff) and put the 2 turkey girls in the back yard so that freed up a ton of space. The Splash Cochin boy is in with 2 girls in an 8x16 pen that I don't need for anyone else so POOPS is fine. I'm so glad you'll take a Lavender boy or 2! I'm already sweating hatching the 6 Moderns and 4 Favs in the incubator. I'm so scared there'll be a bunch of boys and I won't be able to find someone to take them. I don't suppose you'd be interested in an LF Faverolles male, would you....? lol
If you change your mind and need me to take him sooner, just let me know. I would be delighted to have one or more of the lavender ameraucana roos. That would make a nice addition to my color scheme for the americochin. As for the LF Favorelle male I maybe interested. I have two hens. One has very little feathering on her feet but the other one has a hugh beard and muff and heavily feathereds legs. I will get back to you on that. Thanks,

Would love it if folks would post the pictures or PM them to me to include with the raffle list for POOPS.
We have some really cool stuff cominf for the raffle!
I talked to Monty and he said he thought that was a good idea as well. Did you get my PM? Sometime this week I will try to get pictures taken of some of the things I am bringing. Especially the kids stuff.

I got a good count on my hatch tonight I have 66 healthy chicks most of them are Buff Orpingtons then RR reds, Barred Rocks and a few Welsummers I had helped more than half of them out of the shell since they were sticking to the lining and had to cull about a dozen that weren't going to recover from it so not as bad a hatch as I was thinking but it will be better the next set which goes in tomorrow I will have the hatchers up and running well ahead of time I can't do that again,

I'm going to have several things to donate to the raffle and working on a couple ideas that might be cool for that as well, may not be anything as cute as the basket that was posted that is awesome but will be alright LOL

Kass you know we all have your back I think for the most part this is a great bunch of folks that hang out here on the thread and would do the same for most anyone here, It is good to know that their first response is to consider you the liar and they are more interested in proving that (hate that you had to find out that the hard way) but I think they could have saved one more customer (yourself) if they'd been a bit more open to it just being a glitch that things had just gone wrong, Word of mouth is a powerful thing, I had bought about 5 pounds of Red Wiggler earthworms from a seller online and the post office delivered them to my mailbox hanging it on the flag in a plastic bag, when I got off work I didn't have a package hanging on my box a few days later I called to find out where my order was and found out that it had been delivered and then stolen, The seller had no responsibility to replace the worms but did anyway I agreed to pay the shipping which wasn't much and I was happy (not with the post office for putting a delivery on display on a state highway) I have done business with the seller since and would again because he was more aware of what return business was worth to him,
Congrats on the hatch! Yeah you!!!!!
I totally agree about the word of mouth thing it can make or break a business in some cases.
You know I am sure there are some unsavory people out there in the chicken world but for the most part everyone I have met since getting into poultry have been nice, honest, up-front people. It kind of peeves me off that their first response was to call you a liar.

I agree that they could have saved themselves a lot of bad feelings if they just would have replaced them with no B.S. ..................... This is a huge site. Every time I look up anything about chickens on google a lot of the responses that come up are from BYC. Kassaundra did not bad mouth anybody just related her experience with the company. As far as his wife crying, well that sounds silly to me. I can't see anybody on here saying anything that terrible. Maybe she is just an emotional person. If it upset her hearing the truth then that is not our fault. Also if she was so upset why didn't they just make it right.

Elwood, are you bringing any of those Buff Orpingtons to POOPS? I sure would like a pullet or two. I'm sure your ideas for the raffle are going to be great, I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with.

Okay so I just pickled 4 quarts of eggs. Two are spicy eggs and the other are just plain (if you can call pickled eggs plain) dill pickled eggs. Have to admit I think I have found a new outlet for all the eggs I get. Dang these things are going to be so good. :p

Does anyone know how long they should sit before you eat them? I am not sure how long I can wait. Still have 4 dozen eggs in the fridge and will probably get a dozen and half tomorrow so I may have to boil up some more eggs. Of and I found if you add vinegar to the water when you boil the eggs the shells come off a lot easier. Still sucks peeling 3-5 dozen eggs at a time.

One Fred Sanford varmit down.

Kass and Poco. I have several blue, splash and black NN chicks. I am going to keep all the NN pullets that does not have the top knot. I am going to keep most of the males top knot or not to butcher. Both of you going to the NE okla gathering in June? If so I will bring all the top knot pullets and some males if you want. I called tradio Sat. (call in radio show to sale stuff. I sold several of the non NN pullets that were 2, 21/2 months old for 10 dollars apiece. The chicks I have now will be 3 months and older when June rolls around. If interested in some of these at that price, they are yours.

Hi Maribeth, long time no see. You going to the Newcastle auction Saturday. Love to see ya!

We will likely go by there on our way home from Hubby's high school reunion in Pocasset. His class, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, was one of the last classes to graduate from Pocasset. That means all of the graduates are getting old enough to avoid driving after dark, so they have the reunion late afternoon and it is over before 6pm.

I dont know why it just added my response to the quote - but thank you! I will keep that in mind - Good things come to those who wait right?

Did you put your response in the white space beneath the shaded box around the quote?

A very calm & gentle female Great Pyrenees just showed up at my downtown house this morning....she is BIG. I don't know what to do with her. She is friendly and gets along with my little JRT, but she's HUGE. I put a "found" ad on Craigslist. Maybe her owners will see it.

Great Pyrenees, although large dogs, actually don't eat as much as you might imagine. Their metabolism is rather low, so they eat about half of what a labrador retriever would eat. Your JRT might enjoy having another dog to keep him company. GPs generally have a very mellow disposition.

Our guineas have finally started laying eggs. I found 7 of them today, for the first time this year. The pheasants are also starting to lay eggs. Not all of the hens are laying, but I am encouraged to see eggs from the guineas and pheasants. Several hens are making the "broody hen growl" but they keep switching nest boxes. Even the hen who has been the most faithful with a clutch of eggs has moved nest holes at least once, causing her first group of eggs to get cold and die on about day 14.

Thank you to whomever suggested drawing a line around the middle of the egg before setting them with a broody. That distinctive mark has been much easier to see at a glance than the dates I have always placed on the eggs in the past. I still date them, but can easily remove unmarked eggs before the hen tries to attack my hand.

I am going to set some pheasant eggs, some silkie eggs and some blue NN/madagascar eggs this week. I guess if 6 out of the 10 nest boxes contain a hen that is broody, the eggs will be incubated even if the hens continue to play musical nest boxes.

I have been gathering the runner duck eggs but think I will let them hatch out a nest of eggs beginning this weekend. I adore ducklings and just need to wrap chicken wire around one of the dog runs that has only chain link fencing, so the ducklings won't be able to go through the chain link.

Cowboy what did you happen to trap?

Bill glad the hatch wet well. Once you get the hatcher sat up you can stagger & hatch every wk. do you plan on loading the incubator back up this wk?

We got 11 guinea eggs today!!! Everyday I seem to be finding more eggs, odd how so many woke up & decided it is time to lay eggs. Think they will all be laying in the next few wks. Can't wait to see what colors we hatch out!
