***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Okie ridge-- first guinea is out! Not sure on the color until it dries, but looking like a shade of white or buff. It is one of the eggs that pipped last night. The other egg w the goop hasn't made an progress still. Snapped some pics w my phone.

& yes the fly bags stink. Dh said they smell nasty like something he never smelt before!

I agree with Greybear, wire on the top sags even without ice. My first pen was & still is made like that & it is a pain it the tush! I recomend the black deer netting on the top, even when we had our worst ice, only some of it broke & it was due to tree's. The other ice it just sagged & mostly stayed in place......what didn't was a breeze to put back up.

Someone on this thread says pine sol sprayed in the run gets rid of flies, not sure of the particulars though, dilution and how often to spray.

Looking for a few hens in OKC. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some? This will be our first time raising chickens and I am super excited. The coop is built and ready to go, just need to find some chickens. I have done lots of research but any advice would be great. Thank you :)

Welcome to our group. Let us know a little about yourself and your chicken interests.
We have a lot of enablers here to help.
I have some Cuckoo Marans hens for sale! See what I mean. Enablers, gotta love us!

I'm not the one that posted about it but have sprayed it when we have people over sometimes, it doesn't last long & doesn't get rid of them completely. I have read lately that vinegar works but haven't tried it. Let me know if you have any luck with either.

Lynn sorry if I wasn't clear-- it is poultry aviary netting from 3T products. It is rated to handle snow & ice. I ordered he 2 inch heavy knotted 50x100 pc. It has been awesome. We ordered it a yr ago & after getting it in place on 4 pens I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. I had yet to have a rip or tear in the net, even had a skunk get tangled up in a piece on the ground & the skunk couldnt get out & didn't tear the net. I wasn't thrilled about the $200 purchase, but honestly I don't think I could ask for a better product. It has yet to endure an ice storm, but it does handle guineas constantly flying into it & doesn't give.
This stuff looks awesome! I can easily use this on top of my pens instead of clipping wings! I was going to try covering with welded wire or something but it was going to be such an ugly hassle. This will work perfect :) http://www.3tproducts.com/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=65

Monty, are they hens you hatched yourself or did they come from a swap or auction? I've got 2 sweet Cuckoo Marans boys and 2 girls. They're in their own yard and the girls would sure appreciate some more females around. I don't want to risk the unknown as far as diseases but I'd feel pretty safe about it if you hatched them yourself.

Actually guineas are kinda like puppies. You never know what color you will get. Last year I hatched royal purple white & buff dundotte out of pearl, coral blue & lavender guineas. They throw all kinds of colors, but not a lot of research has been done on where or why the colors come from. It is always exciting when a new color hatches out!
