OH SOOOOOOO TRUE!!!!!

Some of them drop them while they're walking (literally lol) and others make a big production out of it and sit and squawk in the nest for 45 minutes making sure EVERYbody for 4 acres knows they're laying an egg. It does sound like you've got one wanting to sit on eggs. Depending on the chicken some get pretty bent out of shape when they're broody.
Uummm....oh yea....you don't officially have chickens until you show us PICTURES lol

I have a couple of those and when they are finished they will step just out of the chicken door yelling thier fool heads off looking all around to see if anyone is paying attention and if you are they prance out to the middle of the run area still singing at the top of thier lungs! Such Drama Queens!!!!!

All 4 of my big Cochin girls are gentle and soooo dang sweet, is that how yours are? They come running up to me and squat like they're asking to be picked up. So then I have to hold them and tell them how wonderful they are. I think it's just their personality because they were raised alongside the hatchery Silkies and the Silkie girls act nothing like that. I'm seriously debating putting my dark blue male with them long enough to hatch out some babies. If *this* is what hand raised Cochin girls act like? That'd be what I want for ALL my chickens.

rofl!!!!! That's hilarious!!!
I'm sick to death of this rain. 5 more days of this????

All the girls are turning out that way...will simply stand still for you to pick them up. Delilah and Samson don't like to be held, but Delilah likes to be stroked....even when she is broodie....she almost purrs.

I just holler back at them, "I've been through childbirth 3 times and ya'll are a bunch of sissys!!" lol

Yup. That one I posted the picture of keeps trying to be broody and she purrs like that when we discuss how raising children is NOT what it's cracked up to be and I take her eggs and send her out to play. I've got a mix in the laying yard that will chew your arm off over eggs that aren't even hers though. My big Cochin girls just remind me of.....matriarchs. That's what it is. My boys are standoffish like Samson, it's got to be the breed because I didn't know male from female for months and they were all raised and handled the same.
Nana, you're not helping my argument against hatching more big Cochins out :)

Oh no....I've been trying so hard not to think about Newcastle since I found out some of his birds are going to be there. The only thing that will me feel a tiny bit better if I don't go is that *everyone* wants his birds and there's no way he's got enough to go around haha!
I'm reading up on how to get Lemon Blues right now.....it might be easier just to buy some Lemon Blue eggs.

"You should go to Newcastle" Just keep repeating that like a mantra it starts at 6 so you have plenty of time to get there

God save me from these shameless enablers!!!
I'm looking at Silver Laced and Gold Laced LF Cochins right now along with the Lemon Blues....Ya know.....I've got a couple acres here I can fence......I could make yards for different colored big Cochins......I'll think on it for a few wks. If I still want to in a few wks then I'll know I'm not going to change my mind.

My other AM is grey looking. A lot lighter than the fist and no yellow. I had to assist with two silkies per my dad. I don't know that they are going to make it. :( I think I need to get out of the house for a bit. I'm not sure I will be hatching again.

It would be a good Idea.. Bo has excellent stock a very good addition to any cochin flock.

Mitzi,
If its Bo's birds you may not get another chance for a while... I say Go and get them, and then wait a few weeks to see if you still want them, You could always take them to Poops and give them a good home there if you change your mind.
