Happy Easter, Everyone! I'm new here and new to raising chickens. Just a backyard coop and run with 6 pullets but loving it!

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma.
If you have 6 pullets, you may need to acquire more chickens. Where are you located, what kind of chickens do you have and what would you like to acquire?

The easiest way to attend your first poultry auction is to hand over your bidder's number to one of the Okies in the BYC. In no time, you will have acquired more poultry than will fit into any existing coops and you will be looking for more areas to turn into poultry quarters.

Just googled it (gopher purge) I never knew there was a different plant then caster bean as gopher purge. Anyway looking at the two plants I'd rather plant the caster bean it is far prettier.

I interplant mine with other flowers/plants...it is the roots that keep the gophers out.

I still have a few issues that I bought in the 70's! I'm feelin' ooooold.....

Here's new pics of the mystery chick. I'm sure it's a roo by the way he carries himself. He's small so I'm guessing bantam since all the girls his age are bigger than him. He's also taking forever to get his feathers. The closest I can tell is maybe partridge cochin. Any guesses yet?

I really am just a young chick myself.....graduated from highschool in t971.....

The first picture had me thinking screetch owl!!!

If the middle toe does not have feathers and there are only 4 toes, then the baby is a Cochin cross....solving only part of the mystery.

There are definitely enablers here...I was encouraged to buy 18 Blue Cochin eggs at Newcastle last night after I stopped bidding on them..."hey, it' only another dollar!" and with the d'Anver eggs I bought to get a little hen for the Belgian d'Anvers roo that a breeder in Georgia GAVE me, and the eggs from my breeding projects...I just figured out there are 90 eggs in Carl's incubator!!!! I have to get busy and get those new cages built!! and get the shelving up....and make way for the bigger brooder and.....

Thanks to a tip from JCatblum, I discovered that Michael bought some of those gorgeous white Cochin hens that Bo brought to the Newcastle sale. We had to leave before the girls made it to the auction table. Michael has agreed to sell me two of them....I'm in Heaven!!!

This will still leave me time to decide what other colors I want to get from Bo this fall.

I think I'll have to agree with my hubby..... obsession!

Already excited for the Blanchard Auction - I hope to see/find some of yall in the next time around! I need to find some pullets.... cannot wait for poops!

Maybe they will have Keets and some baby heritage turkeys.

Thanks to a tip from JCatblum, I discovered that Michael bought some of those gorgeous white Cochin hens that Bo brought to the Newcastle sale. We had to leave before the girls made it to the auction table. Michael has agreed to sell me two of them....I'm in Heaven!!!

Not an obsession, just a very fun involved hobby that has benefits of good friends and fresh eggs. However it does involve some investment of pens, space and feed, but hey its a hobby and its fun and its better than other options one could get involved with.

A big welcome to all the new folks, disregard the idea that are any enablers on here, or the idea that anyone here will help you get more chickens than you need, we are only going to help you understand that having a selection of birds in different colors and breeds is a good idea and that you really need more than you currently have.
In the event you think you might have too many chickens we will introduce you to chicken math and it will become very clear that you do not have enough chickens and that you need to aquire a proper number to meet your needs.

Special thanks to Ksane for the chicks!!! I only planned on a couple and told my kids we couldn't take them all but then we seen them and that was that. Haha. Now I have 7 in the coop 4 downstairs and 10 in my bedroom. I think its time to get busy on the big coop.

According to someone on chicken math none of mine lay eggs so I guess I don't have chickens yet.
