***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Anyone interested in some Amish Paste tomatoes. They grew kinda leggy & don't look as strong as my others. They are big, just not real thick stems. Should do fine if you plant them in a trench on there side. I was going to toss them, but feel guilty! My sister took some home last wk & they are doing good for her so far. I have several trays of them plenty to share with anyone that wants them @ Blanchard tomorrow or I could even bring them to Newcastle.
Tell m,e about planting leggy tomatoes in a trench on their side. How do you get the top to bend up toward the sky? Do you leave the very top uncovered and it will correct its direction itself? I am only familiar with burying leggy tomatoes 2/3 or more in the ground, which sometimes makes for a very deep hole.

Watching the live radar on kfor.com it is interesting to see how many storm chasers are out there. There were a lot more earlier in the evening, but it looks like from some descriptions of what they are seeing (place your curser above a location with a little car marking a spot on the screen) there is still some large hail and tornadoes heading NE through Oklahoma. Most of the bad storm reports are in the far SW part of the state right now.

Edited to note that the storms actually look to be due West of Lawton and moving toward our BYC friends in Apache and Anadarko.

birds are all in the coop - but go figure they are screaming their heads off at the rain....

Why in the world - I guess that I put them up before it was dark and they were just not ready!

Sure, or since you don't have bunches of layers yet I am CERTAIN someone around here can help him have eggs for the contest. (someone with nice colored eggs or tiny eggs PM armywife & get her boy some eggs for the contest). If no one else offers I am sure I can find a few extra eggs, I will just have to pry them out of DD hands!

I am shooting for 6 eggs per child that enters. Figure if we can get 10 kids to enter then that will be 60 eggs for us to vote on.

I think I can get enough eggs, unless they slow down if it gets too hot before then. I usually get two eggs a day. I have two hens that are laying right now.

Ya GOT to be smarter than the chickens.
And if you want to fool Yeti it better have a label on it that says --------> "This is not chicken food" <-------- if you want to get into the run without being taken to the ground lol
I'm thinking of you, Nana! They just said there's some bad stuff by Meeker. Not bad here at all. Every time for the last 19 yrs that it's hit Norman/Moore its missed us.

We were very lucky and didnot get hail...we deid get 1/2 inch rain in 10 minutes....total of 1.5 so far. Rain was coming so hard, we could not see 1/4 mile in any direction.

All good here, it was 2 miles north and 1 east all I got was rain and extra tree branches that were not mine. I really like the position of this house, had several very close in the last 15 years two have even gone over the house but never lost so much as a shingle off the roof. Anymore I just sit on the front porch and watch it come and go.
Whew!! Did Stephanie have any trouble at the Mall?...storm was headed there. Sure was a big change from earlier today!

Some pics from today.

This iris just bloomed today, I wanted to get the pic before any storms beat it up

These next ones are my comfrey blooming, this is a bad thing it should have been harvested before it bloomed. So even though they are beautiful hopefully this won't happen again.

P&B if you dig a trench & plant the tomatoes on there sides then they will up right theirselves. Roots will grow along the leggy stem & make the plant strong. May need to remove a Few lower leaves depending on how high up the leaves start.

If you plant leggy tomatoes in a deep hole then it is hard to water the roots good. A shallow trench is easier to water than a deep hole.

Got a call from DH he has a 3 yr old female German shepherd that he was gifted on the way home. Tomorrow will be interesting to see how her & the chickens make out together. Hope she has been spayed & doesn't have a taste for chicken!

My house is on the West side of Lawton, but I'm in Moore visiting my daughter. Hubby is home with the chickens. Daughter and I got caught on the highway in the first part off the storm, but we made it slow and safe. Daughter is a careful driver.

P&B if you lay them long ways in a trench and gently bend the top couple of inches upward they will start growing straight up from there. Laying them in a trench allows roots to come out all along the stalk,if you plant them in a deep hole in order to make them shorter they won't root on the stalk near as fast so it sets them back. The soil in the top few inches is warmer and gets wet quicker therfore promoting rapid growth. Its really the best way with long leggy plants.

Hope the storms aren't as bad as they have been forecasting for you all. Its finally warming up here. Starting to see some damage to some of the trees and vines from the frost.

Set another broody tonight. Got another waiting on eggs but I have some golden wyandotte eggs comming in so I am saveing her for them!

Sale day tomorrow at Elkton ,Ky. This sale has been getting bigger everytime this year so hope it continues. Hopeing to find another gosling to go with the tuffted one I have.
